After selling my BMW DTM Replica wheel, it was time to make a new one. This time i wanted to take it to another level and try to make the rim as close to the original as possible (for me)

The V2 version has custom made hand grips, a smaller BMW 3D logo, magnetic shifters, a rotary encoder and a clutch. Like the original, BMW DTM steering wheel, it's painted in high gloss black.

    The presentation video

The BMW DTM steering wheel is super light, weighs only 945 grams (without QR) and has a 315mm diameter. The electronics are powered by a Leo Bodnar BU836a.

If there's any interest, i will be offering a limited series of DIY building kits which includes the CNC cut frame, the 3D printed parts and links where to buy the electronics.

    Price and availability through PM

Man that looks good! What is the magnets on the clutch paddle for? Is it to add resistance in the opposite way of how you use them on paddle shifters?
I´m beginning to feel like I should bring my M3 DTM wheel back to life again with better grips.

The clutch works with a hall sensor and therefore needs a magnet. I think the original works on the same way

HoiHman, this is really impressive, I can't send messages because I'm new to the forum.

Do you make these with clubsport quick release? Or something compatible?

I appreciate if you can send me a message to see how much these are..

    Thank you!

Yes in the registration mail I have clicked on the link to verify, I can log on also normal, that would probably not otherwise go well. Unfortunately, I also can not find out how I can send an email, this is with new members as directly unlocked or somehow locked. Is there an alternative how I can contact you, is it possible to post my own email address here or is this forbidden in the forum?

Hi guys, I bought a BMW kit from @HoiHman and I’m building the rim right now. I saw his wheel about one year ago here on the forum and immediately fell in love with it. My ‚problem‘ is, that it’s a DD wheel, well at last it’s made for these bases. Me, I have a Fanatec CSW V2 base, so I had to think about a solution to make it compatible, as the Fanatec base only works, with a Fanatec wheel connected to the QR.

I will show you a documentation of the building process when I finished my project. Here and now are just pics, from what I’ve accomplished so far...

    2FD93568-81D9-4443-B2E2-ACBE2289A5E1.jpeg

Right now I’m not sure, if I will do a completely original replica or just an ‚inspired‘ one and there are several things I have to solve at the moment. I’ll post the progress the next days/weeks...

So, here’s a short update... as shown before, my adapter box for the CSW is already built, the QR prepared for further wiring and now I prepared all the 3D printed parts for painting. I sanded them, then used a primer and then I sanded them over and over again. After I applied the paint, I saw that the result was not what I expected. So I put filler on the parts and sanded them again, put the paint on. Now I’m quiet satisfied with the result.

    421D3564-9725-4323-94A2-2AF6801FADFC.jpeg

Now I’m starting to assemble the parts, but therefore I have to wait for an order of M3 screws, V2A M3x50/25 with internal hex sockets, V2A M3x30 grub screws (I want to use as rods for the shifters) and black nylon washers. Then I can continue with the buttons and the wiring of the Leo Bodnar interface... I hope till then I will have finished painting and foiling the front plate.

So, that’s right where I am... I think it will still take some time, but it’ll be worth it.

I don’t bother, building is learning, is fun! So spray painted the back of the front plate the 5th time. Now I’m quiet happy with it, just some polish to do to get rid of some bubbles and make it shiny (although only a small amount will be visible with the backcover applied). And I got the adapter ring from my friend; awesome professional work! So, I Continue my journey to building the best (awesomenest?!) wheel there is!

    Awesome job Thomas.

That adapter looks stunning in gold.

Too bad that in raceroom the BMW DTM rims on the 2014-2016 models have changed to the new version with the 360 degrees steering update.

In my head there are already plans for a V3 version, but i like the looks of this rim much better.
