Today i bought myself a new gaming pc. My current pc is a small MSI trident (i7-6700 and GTX 1060) and it was time to upgrade.
My original plan was to spec my new pc with i7-9700 and GTX 2080, but those new components are way to expensive. So i decided to go with something more affordable, besides those components are a bit overkill when you are not using VR or triple screens IMO.
If everything goes to plan, it will be delivered tomorrow.
    New system : MSI Infinite A 8RE-409EU
    System specs :
Intel Core i7-8700 3.2GHz Hexa Core
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
    RAM 16 GB DDR4

It costs 2200€ at Media Markt.

Building a PC with these components you would pay around 1500€

So the MSI pre-built costs 700€ more. :-D

I only paid 1799€ at Coolblue online shop for this pc ;)

    Mediamarkt is way too expensive.

Yeah. 700€ difference would be way too much

I would like to upgrade to an i5-8600k and a GTX 1080,
at least that's the plan now that GPU prices are back to normal
just a MOBO, CPU some RAM, and a small SSD for the OS
gonna reuse everything else, drives, case, power supply

I recently upgraded my GPU from GTX 980 ti to a GTX 1080 ti:
    Present: ASUS Pro Series - Intel i7 4790 (8x 4GHz) - nVidia GTX 1080 ti - 16 GB ddr3
But while I had a massive FPS gain, I now have some stuttering sometimes (while over 120 fps) so I think my i7 4790 needs upgrading (triple 27" 144 Hz setup).

For me upgrading my system was almost impossible. The MSI Trident is way too small to upgrade, so that's why i decided to go to a bigger pc this time. When the next gen GPU arrives, i can at least upgrade my system this time.

I got a big old Thermaltake Armor case,
you could fit an EATX, couple GPU's
and an expresso machine in there

I'm going to do my first pc build, and need an advice.
I'm going for the Gigabyte Gaming Pro mobo, with the i7 8086K.
Going for Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB Ram, but should I go for this = 2x16, or 2x of this = 4x8??

    2x16gb should work better

I'm waiting with upgrading my 1050ti for AMD to show Navi, rumors say that their best chip should offer performance of gtx 1080 for half the price. I'm a bit sceptical, but I can wait for it a little more instead of buying overpriced RTX 2060 or 2070

I am not sure about intel difference in performance, but talking about GPU, 2080 is really overpriced and not that money better from 1080, so basically you did wise choice, my Congratulations!
You have a very strong PC for today and next for the next 5 years you can definitely forget about upgrading something, especially if you playing RaceRoom :)

Hope you can help me here:
    I'm on an older i5 4690 with 1600 MHz RAM and a 1070 here.
Most of the times I'm driving R3E, sometimes Euro truck Simulator. These both in VR.
In Raceroom I've all Details in high except shadows to off and reflections to low, AA 4x. SS is at 1.8
I'm fine with that, it runs 45 fps on asw stable, even on N24 with 40 GT 3 cars as AI. (Thanks AI selector)

But what I want is a bit more AA or SS and 90 FPS. Hopefully without loosing graphics quality.
So I want to upgrade my PC.

First the CPU. Which to choose for R3E? 8700k or 9700k or even an Ryzen? Which one is better for me?
RAM seems to be 3200? Or 3400? CL 16 or does CL 14 help in my case?

Bear in mind, that I'm not interested in actual shooters or something like that.

    Thank you!

How many cars do you have visible? I find this setting makes a big difference to FPS. I only display 26 cars even when running huge grids, the only time you notice missing cars is when viewing replays of the start, during normal driving 26 is plenty.

Exactly that, it shows what you can see in front of you and in your mirror. Once the field strings out a bit though I find 26 is a good compromise. Even if the furthest away cars clip in and out you don't see them as you are to concentrated on what's happening around you. Definitely worth a look if you want to gain FPS

Also setting the car LOD (or something like that) to a lower setting gains FPS. This means that cars in the distance use a less detailed model so it's less strain on the system..... Again, you don't really notice the lower quality of cars in the distance when actually racing.

    Yes, I've only 18 visible.
That explains, why I can set everything so high.

Anyone an idea because of the new PC thing I've asked for?

This is something I really hate, that in R3E no setting is explained? I thought, that this setting sets all details to low and not only the far objects.
I've asked some months ago to get some Tipps from the developers about the settings. But they think it is not necessary.

And R3E has so many options, you can tweak everything now and there which is lacking in all other racing sims. But they don't want to win with it.

Car LOD just affects cars and affects the distance that cars become higher quality models. I agree some of the visual detail settings are confusing

    May I ask again :)

If an Ryzen 2700 is okay for R3E with Oculus and 90 FPS by decent settings, I can save about 250 Bucks against an I7-9700 system.
