Don't know how anyone could have missed this thriller... Maybe you can hear yours truly chanting as well for Seb...
Heard about rumours that TCR might get an electric championship...the ETCR! Please do not confuse with ETRC (European Truck Racing Championship) ERC (European Rally Championship) and ETCC (former European Touring Car Championship) If you ask me, these names really don't differ too much from one another, do they? But I think an electric Touring car championship is better than a formula e. Electric road car based models are very close to the market Emobility is trying to reach. And close racing is that what makes Touring cars fun in general, so this series won't be as generic as FE. What do you guys think?
So, I was visiting GT Masters at Oschersleben again this year, and as always made a "bunch" of photos. Took me some time to upload the photos this year. The reason is that I got me a far better camera than I used to have and also improved my skills to setup and use the camera. This led to nearly 1500 photos from only 1 day and I really wasn't prepared to this overwhelming amount of choice... Here's the whole album on flickr. If applicable I cropped the photos to a 16:9 aspect ratio. A few medium sized preview examples:
Also part of real motorsport: Anthoine Hubert passed away after a crash in the F2 race at Spa Franchorchamps this weekend. Sad to see such a talent and nice guy being taken away from us. Safety standards are high on cars and race tracks these days, especially at an F1 Grand Prix weekend. But sometimes this is not enough. It should remind us that motorsport alway carries the risk of death with the fascination it brings to us. RIP Anthoine Hubert (1996-2019)
The main reasons for this are the track limits. The new concrete run-off zones cause higher speeds (compared to gravel aside). With gravel aside of the track, Correa never would be in the position as he was before he hit Hubert.
The area where the collision happened is where the endurance pit lane rejoins the track. It would never be gravel there, at best it would be grass. Paved runoffs are safer as they allow a driver to maintain control and slow down in most situations. The crash of at the weekend was an unfortunate chain of events, lots of ifs and buts. Sometimes it just books down to terrible luck. RIP Anthione Hubert
If you have the possibility to drive outside the Tracklimits without consequences instead of losing speed....you do it
You dont need to lose speed in a flat out corner tho. So for correa to end up off track he either made a mistake himself or was already trying to avoid hubert/someone else/debris. Either way i dont think having a gravel trap there would have changed a whole lot
Gravel traps are obviously more dangerous at those speeds. If a car arrives at the wrong angle, it can bounce, jump into the air, or even sent into a spin with quick rotation which can cause way more damage to the driver, the marshalls and also the car and the track.
Question is, if the FIA will change something at the circuit or the cars. Verstappen and Giovanazzi also crashed into the barriers at high speed. But we'll never know what exactly happened as the FIA keeps the Footage of the Onboard Cameras hidden. We had a Eau Rouge/Radillion Chicane in the year of 1994. And don't say the complex wouldn't be a challenge then, it's flat out in F1 and F2 these days, a bit of skill to master the turns would be enjoyable!
The survival cells are designed to sustain ONE critical hit, what's specific about this terrible incident is that the Arden took two separate massive hits in a blink of an eye. Unfortunately I was watching the live broadcast and as if the incident wasn't terrifying enough in itself, my eyes even caught the most horrific detail: Hubert's cockpit opened up during the second impact. I instantly knew that this is one of the nastiest crashes of the modern era... Very unfortunate.
Pocono speedway is about 45 mins from me. Local news posted an article stating that Indy car is not coming back next year. Which is a bummer, yes there has been a death and to major accidents within the last 4 years. This years accident was very similar to last years crash with Robert Wickens. Except that the driver that caused it forgot his brain before he got in the car.
