We know that some thrustmaster wheels have issues with flatspots and other effects causing strange ffb outputs, but we don't know why or which wheels are being affected.

If you are a TM user could you comment below with the following information:

    FFB problems: yes/no
    Wheelbase:
    Rim:
    Driver version:
    Firmware version:
    Windows version:
    Comments and other relevant info:

Driver and firmware data can be found in the wheel control panel, search "game controllers" in windows

I will attempt to collate the data and see if any patterns can be found.

    Thanks.

    Comments and other relevant info:
The issue definitely started after updating to the current driver & firmware combo. I have this recurring problem when driving through a slippery surface (kerb or astroturf) under heavy lateral force, the "sliding effect" gets stuck on the wheel, the FFB pulls away from the center to either side until the car makes contact with another object. In my experience, slight suspension damage makes this issue more likely to appear (but I also had it without damage).

I've not had any issues at all (touch wood) with either my old "pre-flat-spot" controller profile or a new one made a couple of weeks ago.

I have turned collision effects down to zero since it's not only a useless ffb information, but also known for some other strange wheel behaviour.

When ffb set on Square the bug is pretty violent, if on Sine it's more subtle, but still quite noticeable. I think I only had the problem in combination with a flatspots, as tiny as it sometimes was. It also vanishes over time in race as you would expect the flatspot to get less.

Looks like the cranking up the "lateral force" in the ffb settings makes the issue worse.

    I've tried:
    • resetting the profile,
    • updating wheelbase firmware
    • reinstalling windows
    • Changed the "FFB flatspot wave type"
    Reproducing the problem:

So the wheel just pulled hard to the left for no particular reason?

I tested a bit again after reinstalling the TM driver once again. Joined the ranked F4 server at Spa. Managed to reproduce the issue thrice in a single FP session just by riding over higher kerbs: exit of Blanchimont, exit of Les Fagnes, cutting the left kink of the bus stop (also received suspension damage). But I also bound the FFB Reset key to a button on my wheel and luckily it works, if I manage to catch the initial pull, I have a chance to survive by rapidly hitting the rim.:D

Comments: Does it happen after tires have flatspots? On first lap, tried to flatspot tires (F2, F4, Porsche Cup-Off ABS) several times, then tried driving past edge of the road onto grass/sand, but didn't notice anything abnormal (ie. car drove straight on grass but was slippery, sand had some drag on the wheel when turning back to the road).

Yes, if you manage to keep it straight, it pulls hard left, right, left, etc.

When it starts to happen, it feels like there's a lot of play (ffb deadzone) in the center position of the wheel, then it starts bouncing left and right, as if the connection to your tires have a lot of play and snap left and right.

Thanks..as above, if you could provide a log file next time it happens and your exact rcs that would be great. If we can get enough data on this we might just be able to pinpoint what's happening. Thanks.

@ravey1981 I've attached my profile and log file from the test session where it went wrong. I've quit R3E as soon as I had the problem.

    FFB problems: Yes
    Wheelbase: TS-XW Racer
    Rim: Sparco P310 Mod
    Driver version: 2.10.10.0
    Firmware version: 4.0
Windows version: Windows 10 64 bit

I'm having some very strange FFB in RE3 at the moment.

When driving the FFB will start out fine for a lap or 2 but then all of a sudden the wheel will start pulling left or right with out end for what seems like no reason and this can swap back from left to right etc. if I fight it.

End result is I'm weaving around like an idiot and crashing into people and barriers.

It's a lot like what you can see in the video above posted by @Maarten

It'd been happening in the Audi TTs for sure as I've been trying to build up my on line rating and a really bad pull just a short while ago in the GTR2 Ruf RT12R.

@ravey1981 - how/where do you get the log files you asking people for?

I have this problem too, see my post just above.

    Cheers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it might be this folder inside your My Documents folder:
    X:\my documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\Log

    FFB Problem: Yes
    Wheelbase: TM-TX
    Rim: F1
    Driver: 2.10.10.0
    Firmware: 56.00
    OS: Win 10 2004

All I can add is try using USBDview, uninstall any rogue usb devices using this free s/ware before any RR session, will temporarily cure this issue for your session but always check again before your next session. Simple to install, non-invasive and takes seconds to use.
