I don't know if I'm wrong, but it seems like there is no topic for DiRT Rally? Well, okay, now there is one. I just wanted to congratulate @Georg Ortner , the guys from Codemasters chose your video as the DiRT Rally video of the week Really nice footage! https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/blog/5334
Amazing game, first great rally game in over a generation. The trade-off is a lack of stages, because the ones they have made are such high quality, but it's certainly one worth making to experience this. My only real hesitation with the game is the weird handling when the car gets airborne, which makes the Finnish stages nigh on impossible in the quicker cars for me, unless I brake very heavily before most of the crests.
I get some steering lag, making some sections a nightmare at times. Also miss a Hardcore damage model, and don't like the Recovery button and auto recovery to the road.. But besides that I really like the game! But they should make a couple of DLCs for this!! Especially missing Hill Climb locations, only Pikes Peak!??.. But also some more ordinary Rally locations and stages would be welcome!
This game is a blast, bought it when it was early-access. Looks great, plays great, but since I am not scandanavian I suck at it . Best Codemasters (rally) game by a mile.
If it would just have the Asphalt/Tarmac Physics of R3E... It is nevertheless my favorite Sim at the moment (until getting Nordschleife in R3E )
Im just waiting for realistic damage before i buy it. it still feels like a downgrade from rbr cause the cars are too pointy and its missing features.
Yesterday I played some Dirt Rally and configured my TH8A as handbrake. Previously I had a button on my wheel as handbrake but I always screwed up. What a difference!!! Hairpins are child's play now. Analog handbrake ftw. Not Scandanavian level yet but a BIG improvement.
I will buy Dirt Rally on that hallowed day when I update my graphics card. On a related topic: Sector 3 Studios, please note that I bought RaceRoom because @Georg Ortner's videos convinced me that I was missing out on something good. Perhaps you could put some of his best videos on the game's portal to attract would-be customers?
I spend about an equal amount of time in DiRT Rally as R3E. It's fantastic. Like others have said, it's only real limitation is absence of more stages and events. On my G27, I have modified my shifter to be sequential using this guy's plan: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It works very well, and is a permanent solution, unlike some rubber band versions of the same thing I've seen. I assign my handbrake to the right paddle shifter, and for the most part, it works well. I would like to have a real handbrake to pull, but for now, this works. I highly recommend this mod to anyone with a G27 who is looking for a way to make their shifter sequential. I use it in R3E too.
I did that too for a few times but i decided to use it exclusively as H-Shifter for Retro Cars and to use a Joystick as Handbrake instead.
I just swap it around, seq. stick, h-shifter or now handbrake, depending what I want to drive. I only use 2 bolts for the plate so its takes less time. But it would have been be nice if the system was a bit simpler without bolts and additional plate. I thought of using a joystick but don't have a flat surface to put it on, but if you have its a good and cheap alternative.
Its good enough. Its a bit light but to be honest since you drive with one hand 50% off the time its not a bad thing. They updated the FFB during the early-release phase, its not AC level but its a different type of game so you it doesn't need to be detailed. There is no demo. Its a lot better then the old Dirt games, if you like rally its the best at the moment, and its nice for a change.
See I watch a video like this and re-install the game...then drive 2 stages and uninstall again...realising how terrible I really am. If there's a classification for 'anti-alien' then I'm in it.
Its a great game, I love it and heartily recommend it, but don't expect to be able to drive like Georg does in that video. He has special powers
Georg is an exception and obviously a total sim-super-fanatic (with a lot of experience) - as all results are shown in Leaderboard-like tablet after finishing your stage you can see that not every R3E Alien is as fast with Dirt Rally...depends also on the time one has invested. I still find Greek the hardest Rally of all and personally I'm thankful I had a lot of practice with RBR that time - so that I had a good intro not getting totally lost with Dirt Rally -thus I play it only occasionally (good counterpart to street racing learning to control your car in extreme situations) And much thanks to Codemasters that they after 15 Years of promising since Colin McRae Rally 2.0 finally brought a true Rally Sim like requested all that years. Dunno what did the trick - but guess similar to Creative Assembly who brought the first real Alien Game/simulation (Isolation) instead of some FPS Crap they simply earned enough money and therefor have enough recources to afford the luxury of developing a quasi non-mainstream (console) title. Just my guess...
Guys, I find myself playing DiRT Rally more than R3E lately. In my (admittedly only somewhat educated) opinion, it does a fantastic job at a rally sim, not arcade-style game. It can be a bitch to get decent at, but here would be my suggestion. I used to go flat-out from the start, and end up restarting the stage every time I (inevitably) flew 200 feet down the side of a mountain, or blasted myself into a forest of telephone poles. The proper way to incrementally improve at this game is to drive at 70%, then 80%, and so on. Start in the 60s and 70s cars. The Mini and Fiat Abarth are FWD and honestly so horridly slow, that they're fun in a historical way, but the real fun starts with the Ford Escort Mk. II. It gives you a bit more power, and RWD, so you can properly go at it, but it's more forgiving than the 4WD cars that follow. PLEASE, if the learning curve to this game is keeping you out, make an honest attempt at getting over it. The game will reward you if you do.
