I've got a Thrustmaster TM Leather 28 GT wheel rim incoming soon, which is also similar in button layout to the FERRARI 458 CHALLENGE and Alcantara – FERRARI 599XX EVO rims. I was wondering, though, which controls do you find most useful to map the buttons to, and which buttons do you use for which control? If it makes any difference, I mostly intend to be racing GT3/ADAC cars, though also want to race the Audi TT (which can make use of "Push-to-Pass"), as well as a bit of Group 5, GTO and DTM '92. There's also two other map-able buttons on my T300 wheel base. Which buttons do you use for look right/left/behind? I was thinking maybe the two yellow buttons and the red one, which look like the closest to hand, or are there other controls that are more important to have readily to hand? Thanks
I have the alcantara 599xx evo but in your case my mapping overall in all classes is: wheel buttons: left yellow: looking left right yellow: looking right (although I have headtracking, but it extends the view in certain situations) red: looking behind green: requesting pit stop purple: flashing headlights white: DRS & P2P Manettino left: brake bias to front Manettino right: brake bias to rear Manettino press: Pause menu D-Pad up, down, left, right: browsing the pitstop menu Right paddle: shift up Left paddle: shift down (when car has paddle shifters as well, but when driving cars with sequential stick (like corvette gt3 or ruf gt3) I use the TH8A shifter seq mode) Base buttons: L3: Reset EDTracker position R3: Confirm pit stop request Rest is on keyboard, but I plan to buy a buttonbox for more. And I don't use a button for camera view because I always drive in cockpit view... never used another camera view.
Since I use TrackIR I don't need look buttons and can use them for different purposes. From memory: Top left outer: DRS/P2P Top left inner: Headlights Top right inner: cycle dash Top right outer: pit request Bottom inner: Pit enter/confirm Bottom outer: Pit limiter Manettino: Traction control profile +/- Manettino push: cycle camera D-pad up: brake bias forward D-pad down: brake bias rear D-pad left: pit menu next D-pad right: pit menu back Base right: center track ir Base left: Pause With the pits the menu its a bit tricky/needs to many keys, but I wanted to map only essential pit buttons so some are not used. The F1 rim has more buttons. 2 sticks, 3 extra buttons and 2 rotating wheels.
Thanks @sbtm and @rbn - some useful ideas there. I don't currently have TrackIR, but am thinking of getting an EDTracker when they release a wireless one, but in the meantime I'm going to need to look left/right
Yellows to look left/right (both at once to glance back) Manettino for brake bias Buttons on base (R3 and L3) request pit stop/validate Pad to navigate pit stop menu Then you can place lights/pit speed limiter/whatever you use on the rest I have DRS/P2P on purple PS. I use keyboard to map other options wich I use a lot less.
So no need to map the handbrake then? I didn't know you could map 2 buttons pressed simultaneously to a different control than individual button presses! That could gain me a button...
I didn't too. I was on a racing start with cars everywhere, so I was like left, right, left.., and then I realised I was seeing my rear when I pushed both buttons at the same time. I remapped the glance back button right at the end of the race
Does anyone find that there is any need to map the handbrake? Also, what about a Push to Talk button for Teamspeak or Crew Chief, assuming one of them is set to receive all the time?
