The next patch will introduce different tyre compounds, adding even more strategic options to your races.

Depending on the car you will get to choose from a number of different compounds, ranging from soft to hard.

Currently the FR X-17 and FR US are planned to receive this update.

Tune in LIVE tonight, 20:30 CEST for a Multiplayer Test Race, where we test the different compounds for performance and wear https://www.youtube.com/c/6e66o/live

I would have been expecting more than just 2 cars. I would imagine it is going to take a long time then to roll it out to the rest of the cars. I hope there are more features coming then in this supposedly big patch.

Does that bring back the rule from DTM 2015(?) experience to require a prime and an option tyre in a race?
Perhaps as a general rule checkbox?

Perhaps F1 like to start a race with used tyres from the quali?

    This is great news!
I wonder if this incorporates tyre pressures too.

Atleast it's a start on the compounds, can't deny I would of preferred it to roll out on some different classes against these two, but then again they are a obvious choice because of the different compounds these two cars would use, and would be easy to show a test on, this isn't something they have just thrown together, I would imagine it's been worked on for quite awhile, so hopefully it wont take to long to roll it across the board..but saying that 80% of the cars still don't have a decent rotation on the virtual steering wheels, so you never know.

Just a quick question, with regards to tyre wear, does this work by each compound being capable of X amount of laps (driving habits aside) or are they attuned to each track, so some compounds perform better on some tracks, where others suffer (high wear tracks etc) and just to finish, do we assume the ambient temperature is perfect at all times?

Well, different tracks have different demands.
Some tracks are tougher on tyres than others, just by the nature of their layout.
The more high speed corners, the higher the wear.
So while on a track like Monza you might get away with the medium compound, you might need the hard compound on a track with higher wear, like Suzuka.
Always depends on the race length of course.

This is a great addition to the sim - looking forward to it!

Putting my Dev hat on, I imagine one of the challenges is getting the AI to leverage these different compounds realistically in offline races.

Not a priority was the last response from devs some time ago and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. A shame as the ability to adjust tyre pressues has a massive influence in RL racing and goes a long way towards making a sim a sim.

Until very recently, I was in this same camp...but I have a very different outlook on the matter today (http://www.racedepartment.com/threa...-racing-experience.139795/page-9#post-2559864).

You are welcome to disagree - just giving my 2 cents. :)
