In terms of hardware the server doesn't require much. A usual mid tier machine such as a quad core machine should be plenty. For our US servers we use Vultr.

I think the answer to your problem is getting another computer to run as the server. Got a quad core laptop laying around?:D

I think something isn't up to snuff for the burts, bandwidth, network processing, and or router....uneducated guessing

I'll add some uneducated guessing to that, last night myself and another RRNAUZ member were playing on one of our servers, just the two of us, he was in the same city as the server and I had a ping of 70 I still had him teleporting all over the place and seemingly getting lost by the server (or I was) because even though he was only <10 secs behind me sometimes he'd appear to have stopped by the timer, 20 30 40 secs behind, then he'd be back seven or eight seconds behind me. I don't know much about this stuff but that seems buggy since we've had fields of 8 or 10 run fine before that.

Who knows what is going on :)

I think the fact that things work, quite well, on the r3e official servers, we can gather it must be something(Bandwidth, ISP controls, computer, router) that is causing the issue.

I know sometimes on services I run the process gets hung up for a millisecond here and there for some priority reasons.

Matt Bailey who runs our servers has done some calculations vis-a-vis bandwidth (he seems to know about this stuff) and he reckons he can probably handle 24 car fields without pushing it. He runs servers in AC too and apparently R3E is far less demanding than AC where he can apparently only run about eight or ten. Anyhoo, I don't understand any of this, just giving my observations.

You won't get an answer tonight unless he's up past midnight.

    No problem at all!

One question. The server, has a tool to analyse the connection quality of the racers? Even with a relatively hig ping (around 200), there should be no problems.

    Thanks Emerson
Not that I know of... In fact I thought that 200 wouldn't have caused so much craziness but apparently something was going on alongside the fact we had peeps connecting from different part of the world so big latency maybe build up and caused what we saw. Surely external servers are way better for hosting but I thought that a decent upload would have sufficed (considering also that when I tested the first time with people from US they had 35-50 ping! More than good!)

That vultr thing looks like a sweet deal with hourly pricing. $0.095 for 4CPU. Pass the collection plate.

Will you leave the server on at all times, are just turn it on for events
