massive jump in dx9 for the ryzen 5900X vs 3900XT, maybe this will translate to RR too :D

not much gain with 3600c14 memory tuned, maybe we're running into another bottleneck here now

@Thomas Jansen And how is the VR performance? Does it help? That's the part I'm most interested about.

Definitely, assuming you are CPU limited you get the full 20%-ish improvement :D

It does seem like this benchmark likes clock frequency over anything, the huge IPC gains over Zen 2 don't seem to have done too much here :( at least in an actual game, especially in VR those IPC gains do seem to make a big difference though :D

Yes, would be nice if we could somehow load a r3e replay with fixed settings (and fixed head position), and get frame timings via shared memory or so. Would be great to have fps in the shared memory anyway, so you can plot it using motec.

Sadly I got put into a very large pre order queue rather than being sold an actual CPU so someone else who maybe got lucky can add a 5900x to the list! It'll be quite some time before I do it seems.

You proudly represent the majority of PCs, most people that are interested in this stuff just generally spend a lot on their hardware too, so a list like this will be skewed a lot :D

Decided to try disabling two cores on my 5800X and running it at 4.2GHz, to be as similar to my 3600 as possible, quite unexpected, it's slower... I think we may have reached the point where this benchmark isn't really representative anymore of actual games :(

We could try comparing in a small replay, don't want to make it huge like this thread as it will be much harder to control variables though.

Here's a replay of a GT4 ranked race we could use for example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-nzhZ-NnfVp1x53Keup-Ys0M_NE_ebhe/view?usp=sharing

You can put this file here: 'Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\ReplayData' and then access it in-game

I set my settings to 720p on the low preset with these general settings (1.0 FOV is important!):
    upload_2020-11-14_15-5-23.png

I recorded my fps with CapFrameX for the first 3 minutes of the replay, making sure to turn off all overlays while it's running. It should just put you in the cockpit of my car (the KTM), which is the camera I used.

The results are a bit inconsistent, seemingly losing average fps every consecutive run, but the 0.1% lows are a lot lower the first run. Still we could see some general trends from this.

    Results with 5800X, 16GB 3600C14 tuned memory and a 1080ti:

Would be interesting if a couple of people want to run this :D
