As far as I know (which isn't an awful lot, to be frank) this isn't a joke or hoax. It's a mobile version of RaceRoom being developed by another studio. If or when that will see the light of day is unknown to me. But as they are apparently working on a RaceRoom product I guess they can be regarded as a sister studio of SimBin and Sector3 and might be what that SimBin statement was hinting at.
I wouldnt mind if r3e (the pc version) will get unreal (or similar) as well, asap. If not that would be a really awkward move.
While I'm not a programmer, I would imagine it's a whole lot easier to "port" RR's content into a somewhat basic mobile racing environment than it would be to change the engine of the PC game while maintaining all functionality. A mobile game doesn't need FFB, support for a multitude of hardware combinations and many more things that have to be taken into account when we're talking about a PC sim.
Yes, that's true. But it still wouldn't be received well in the community, when the first unreal engine r3e is a mobile one. At least S3 isn't developing it, that would be sth hard to explain when the main product grows, but at a slow rate.
I disagree. If you take the time to look into this mobile game and it's video, it's clear it is exactly that... a game, not a sim. It's not being aimed at the same sim-racing community as full RaceRoom, it's a mobile boredom killer like most phone-based games. It doesn't even look like you drive the car properly... some kind of timing-based flick or tap appears to change gears and turn corners, like some kind of rhythm game. Most of those playing it probably won't know or care what engine it was created with, and the product itself is unlikely to have any additional capabilities not in the "real" version just because of it's engine.
But the impression remains, Raceroom put their efforts in a tinky winky mobil game and the years ago announced change of engine has been layed beside. Worst case, the mobile game gets an economic success and pc version will be abandoned. Raceroom Cafés will be equipped with smartphones.
So what about that Discord server? Although to be fair to them, they only promised the launch, they didn't say anything about sharing it with us.
SimBin Discord: https://twitter.com/simbin_uk/status/1343548107020263427 Hey! Sorry we have been quiet for so long and the inconsistent activity on our social channels (when we were more active). At SimBin we are just as anxious to share all our progress on GTR3, as you are to hear it! This past year we have been directing all our resources and attention internally with the goal of releasing GTR3 in the best state possible. Finally after all this time working on GTR3, we are close to releasing a lot more information. We also have some huge news lined up to share with you soon! However, we do have to ask for you to wait just a little longer, but it will be worth it! We do have some exciting news to share today! To prove that we are back for good this time around we are opening our official Discord! Which means we can never lock ourselves away to tinker with GTR3 without you seeing, ever again. The GTR3 Official Discord is the place to ask questions and offer suggestions. There will even be polls and suggestion channels so you could see your ideas contributing to the final release of GTR3! The Discord isn’t just for asking questions either. Joining will also unlock weekly updates about the game, the ability to participate in polls (which will shape the final release of GTR3) and you may even unlock beta access if you’re active enough! If you have any questions about GTR3 or about SimBin in general please ask away here or for a faster reply ask in our Discord **please click the checkered flag in the rules channel to join!** https://discord.gg/t8a4mx6pxs
No offence, but we've heard it all before. How about just waiting until there is something worth saying, rather than saying there is something worth saying but it can't be said yet? Pointless.
The whole picture looks weird tbh, it gives the impression that the Audi was placed on the picture afterwards.
