I am moving this discussion over from another thread, since my comments are now related to this app.

First, I absolutely agree that this "CrewChief" program is the best I have come across. Even without the voice recognition....and the voice used, fits perfectly.

    next:
    @gongo
I know nothing of making mods/apps like Crewchief and/or how much time and effort it takes - so please forgive me if I sound like my suggestions makes me sound like - I think - it's something that can be done easily.
I tried to make my own desktop theme once. 12 hours of reading, typing....got a simple clock to show up on my desktop. Pretty much stopped after that.

I had the opportunity to test "Setup Developer" program, in earnest, last night.

If something like this could be developed within "CrewChief", this is exactly the kind of thing that could add to the Raceroom experience.

As you sit in the pits, Crewchief could come over the radio...
Crewchief: "okay work on mechanical grip, let's set springs, ride height, and downforce to a medium setting, then run a couple of laps".
While on track, the crewchief goes through a list of questions and you answer them.
Crewchief: "How's the car feeling in general"
You: "wait/major understeer/understeer/oversteer/major oversteer, neutral". I say major understeer
Crewchief: Box, Box, Box. Let's make some changes. Reduce front springs 2 clicks or increase rear springs 2 clicks or soften front ARB and/or stiffen rear ARB.

You pit, make changes to your suspension settings. Drive back on track.

    Crewchief: How is turn-in?
    You: sluggish (sluggish/good/quick)
Crewchief: How is the rear at corner exit?
    You: power slide (power slide/good/twitchy)
Crewchief: Box now. let's increase front toe out and increase rear Toe-in.

You go through the rest of the process and hopefully you end up with a car tailored to your driving style.

I know, I know. There are resources you could read and memorize.

Still, for someone who knows how to drive sim games, but doesn't understand the myriad of changes or how to go about it, wouldn't it be a fantastic tool as part of a sim? What other sim/game does that?

Soooo. How long would it take? I'll send cookies:D

An idea occurred to me racing tonight, being able to use my tablet for a dash and knowing I will be playing in VR by Xmas. Would it be possible to have a "race update" function that is configurable to what you want to include in the update. So for example, for me I would choose pos, laps, driver in front, driver behind and fuel. So would sound something like "OK Gareth, you're 5th, 15 laps to go, named driver is 8 tenths in front, named driver is 5 tenths behind, fuel is good." This could then be fired off by a press of a button, voice command, at the beginning of each lap or every x minutes, whatever the user chooses.

I rely heavily on Crew Chief but also on my dash and like to have as much info as possible at hand when I want it which wouldn't be so easy with VR and would depend on the cars dash screens. (I drive with no HUD)

Thoughts Jim? Aren't you fed up with the VR café yet to spend some quality time programming? :D

Sorry about "the Creator" post, @mr_belowski . I didn't want to bandy your name about haphazardly.
I really do admire the talent needed to create your app/mod/add-on.

Also, you mean, I could have just bought the app, instead of donating? :p

Thanks for the reply G, I know about the voice commands but didn't get on with them, perhaps I talk like an eejit or something. Good to know it's feasible, time will tell.

    A couple of ideas:

    1) Try saying 'keep me updated' or 'keep me informed' and
    2) Make sure you check the box 'enable spotter' in properties.

as a last resort, you can force the app back to its default settings (which definitely has the spotter 'enabled'). To do this, delete the /[user]/AppData/local/BrittonITLtd/CrewChiefV4/ folder

For me, this is in c:/Users/jim/AppData/local/BrittonITLtd/CrewChiefV4/

The AppData folder might be hidden (you need to tell Windows explorer to 'show hidden files and folders')

Maybe something to consider for a future update.

    • Possibility to change distance where "blue flag" communication starts.

Was driving multiclass yesterday, and i got a lot of blue flag warnings with the lapping car still quite far away.
But overall the crew chief was a great help :)

it's currently set to trigger if the other car is between 8 and 80 metres behind. Because I'm a software engineering ninja and do everything properly, these values are hard-coded  but I can bung the upper value in the properties interface instead :)

    That would be appreciated.
Of course the optimum timing depends which cars are in the race.
The difference between a P1 and P2 is smaller than P1 and GT3.
So having it adjustable sounds like the best way to go imo.

Maybe could you trigger a timing instead a distance ?
