Well, the BMW M X6 did the Nordschleife in 8.05, the Range Rover Sport SVR in 8.14.
Ain't that bad for an "offroader".;)

How about a 959 that is a close rival of F50 and Countach? Or a 914 that might fit into their existing Escort or GTA historic touring class that both has no other models to race with? Or a 908 that will go well with the Ford GT and cancelled 330 Tipo? How about a Carrera GT, the car that killed Paul Walker and ex-Group B drivers dont even dare to touch? What about a 911(997) chassis GT3 or GT2? Thats 5 Porsches that will fit in just right with their existing content than another one on the long list of single car classes.

Heck, even till now, there isn't even a sign of a Lotus Espirit in the game when the game has almost a dozen of Evoras. That pretty much show how awful is Kunos in licensing. Also, how you would explain that AC only has 2 Fords, 2 Chervolets, 3 Mercedes Benz, 3 Nissans or 10 Ferraris when these licensed manufacturers could easily provide a dozen more cars?

In the meantime, did R3E/AMS/rF2 has the wealth of resource as AC in terms of finances and manpower? These studios are clearly much smaller studios. R3E had shown that they know that people want rivals for the car classes which is partly why the R90K is held back when they find it some friends to race with. While Audi 90 GTO started out as a single make, it eventually was expanded into a full class.

Also, I do not mind if AC adds in a Moby Dick now then expand their Group 5 with a 512 BB or Ford Capri next year or so. Evidently, they added Ford GT last year then recently claimed it's rival car, 330 Tipo is cancelled despite it was in production with all the references collected. Then, also denied that Ferrari P4 will be in AC which Ford GT will be a single car class with no car on equal performance to it. They just don't care how well the content fit into existing content as they just concentrate on the easy manufacturer when many promised content such as the Ford GT GT3 that R3E has, various Lamborghini models, P4/5 road and hybrid and so on are pushed low priority or cancelled.

Knowing that they openly claim Japanese car manufacturers are too hard to work with on a livestream, it is pretty sure that I wont see another Group 5 in the game after the Moby Dick. Then, I remember Jay Ekkel said that Japanese manufacturers are quite easy to work with along with other developers saying the same. It is a shame as I think AC's Group 5s will be a tonne of fun to drive.

I don't think it is contradictory to slam AC as it shows that they have no to little planning on how their car list fit together in the game. Their GT1, 60s Le Mans, 60s touring cars, GT4 and so on probably needs more car models to expand the classes which most aren't getting more cars than what is in the game. Instead, expand the SUV class when nobody asked for more.

My problem with AC's licensing aspect is, there is absolutely no planning involved or any attempts to produce a more cohesive car list with less single car classes. Try playing GT4, Historic touring or Historic Supercars in AC, those classes are some of the worst match up of cars in the game. Stefano even called the Levante as a joke content when it was releasing then they proceed to add more joke content.

I can't say much, another game that I am part had added a rather controversial vehicle which I did not complain at all because they do have content that is suitable for it. Having SUV in the current version of AC is like putting karts into R3E with no kart tracks, it is probably fun to drive karts on Brands Hatch but it would felt so out of place. I don't mind SUVs, as I enjoyed cruising with them or go offroad in The Crew and Forza Horizon 3.

No doubt it is manufacturer contractual agreement, the question remains why they signed up for such a contract in the first place when most other games in the market doesn't?

I still stay by AC is one of the worst. Any criticism on their forums would result in a ban because they don't like to hear people complaining or even criticising. Heck, even people posting car wishlist got banned because their staff claims car wishlist makes them felt depressed. Or mark issues with the game As Designed without listening to the reasons behind it? Then, a lot of it's fans loves to go around criticising how awful other games are because other games doesn't drive like AC. Kunos staff behaviour too, is also contributing a lot to the toxicity like how Marco mocks Ian Bell from SMS over the Porsche license exclusivity until it stopped recently.

I don't believe in content that only the hardcore folks do not want because "hardcore" folks does not want a lot of things from street cars, open wheels to even GT3 these days because they are everywhere. It has less to do with what unique content a game brings in the market, the issue is how the content come together in a package.

I argue R3E also offer a driving experience that each car has it's own unique character and feeling, it isn't only AC doing it. While R3E excel in bringing it's content together cohesively which AC failed at it.

    Cheeseman,

I "brush over things", you say, and I do the same with RR in AC forums?

No. I just have different priorities than you, and a different viewing angle. I reserve the right to disagree with you, and it is not as if you were the final, ultimate absolute authority out there defining what one may think about AC or RR, and what not.

I also tend to easier focus on positives than negatives, and what there is in potentials and active qualities instead of staring all the time at deficits. The first gets me enjoying what there is. The latter does nothing and prevents me from enjoying it. Thats does not mean not to be critical about something not so good. Its just that I disagree with many of your points you criticise so vehemently. To me, these points mostly do not matter.

Many people will disagree with me. And many others will disagree with you. What is important for you, must not be that relevant or big an issue for somebody else. Well, live with it. ;)

I simply disagree with many of your views, and see things different, and seem to look for other things in a race sim than you do, I see the term more relaxed. And that is as valid a way of looking at things, as is yours.

Just to claim absolute "Deutungshoheit" - that does not go down my throat too well. Not with you, not with anyone else.

Two things are certain: I got much more thna my money'S value out of AC, and I got more than my (more) money'S value out of Raceroom. Them and me, we already are straight anyway. Anything more coming - is a bonus to me.

What makes you the one to decide and to call it that in this penultimate fashion? Have the huge number of people never visiting forums written you letters, telling you you should talk in their name? Not to mention that still a majority of forum visitors seem to be supportive for these free cars? And many are quite pissed by this stupid debate about getting angry over a free gift?

These are free cars. They had to do them for Porsche as mandatory job for the licensing deal. They were, on demand of Porsche, part of the deal. And now, Kunos does not stop PC players to use them - for free, and without needing to do additional work for them since they already are there, in the meaning of that they had to do them for Porsche and on Porsche'S demand anyway.

And you call that "unwelcomed content"? Get back to your senses.

On licensing, it takes two to dance. And it costs money. Its not as if Kunos is all free in what it does in that department. There are limitations and demands by the other side, and there is fiscal calculations on costs and gains by Kunos. Considering that they have landed quite some licensing coups by now, some thta many people called extremely unlikely or even impossible, calling them out for doing a bad job right in this department is a bit - well, misled. Licensign is one quality where Kunos - here in the form of Marco Massarutto - performs right extremely strong in. Car brands may stand in line to get Kunos recreating their cars. Thats does not mean that such brands do not set up conditions.

On tracks, I give my list of >favourite< legal track mods here. Of course there are many more, but these are that I like to drive, and for the most they look either acceptable or really good, sometimes even outstandingly good. Add to these the tracks of AC default and AC DLCs, and you have quite a solid library.

Barbagallo, Bilsterberg (no longer available, I was lucky), Blackwood, Bridgehampton, Donington Park, Grobnik, Karelia Cross, Lake Louise, Lippo Circuit (looks a bit aged, but I had some fantastic racing there), Longford 67, Luccaring (superdetailed scenery, a real must have), Magny Cours (a bit unfisnihed by looks, but fully and good raceable), Mills Motorpark, Miseluk City Highway, Montreal (unfinished, but already fully raceable and nice to use), Pacepark (a simpel converision without great bells and whistles - but very great flow), Riverside, Sachsenring, Salzburgring, Sentul (nice open wheeler track), Surfer's Paradise 2014, Tsukuba, Virgina Raceway (newly released, and a must have). Oh, and DrDoomslab's Transfagarasan, of course.

Some may miss Le Mans. Its not my cup of tea, but okay, it is fully functional and for a mod well-done.

The only thing I miss is a legal and good Suzuka. Just days ago another rip got released, and banned. But thank God there also is Raceroom!

That gives me much more content than I can frequently use. And I use Raceroom and some other games as well, additionally to this.

No, more content is not really that high on my list anymore... Buying stuff for RR and AC I still do anyway, to support the studios.

Somehow this whole debate about Porsche reminds me of the nonsense that was written by some people when Kunos announced they had licensed the Nordschleife. LOL. "How could they dare?" "Why did they do THIS?" "Why not something else?" History has left these people behind, simply that.

As you said, all this is mostly matter of taste, but for the informational purposes, I would like to point out that's not my experience of rF2. While, sure, rF2 does not have a lot of content, it does have series of satisfying balance. For one, URD T5 (DTM). I also didn't notice "single car" experience with Apex GT3, BTCC NGTC, V8 Supercars nor F1 2013 - though I didn't put as many hours in them as in DTM.

This approach seems a bit odd to me. How can a car kill a man? Are we talking about Christine?
It's the driver, who controls the car and if he overdoes, ... An impact with 160 kph normally ends fatal:(.

Everything you listed is a mod... :p None of that is official content, and you cant say that rF2 is fleshed out simply because of mods. AC has many of those mods too, and other mods fill out other classes. Mods cannot be used as a fair point of comparison when judging base content.

As for rF2, they have: 1 GT1 car, 1 GT2 car, 1 GT3 car, 1 GT4 car, 1 BTCC car, 1 Renault Megane, 1 Renault Clio, 2 road cars of vastly different performance, 1 old Cobra, 1 Panoz Roadster (lol?), credit though because they have a handful of historic F1/F2/F3 cars from the 60s... among all of the other single car open wheel classes they decided to make. There is quite literally no class that is fleshed out by the base content. It's indisputable :p

But, mods fill in a few gaps, which is clearly what ISI wanted with this design choice. Modding just didnt take off and we are left with the vast majority of stuff having no (well made) competition.

Besides that, many of the mods that people use are ripped from elsewhere and arent scratch made. Feelings on mod quality aside, I dont care for using illegally converted/ripped content. Personal opinion, other people dont care.

Many of these tracks are either broken with AI pitting almost every lap or poor rF1 convert that is way below the visual quality of AC. Some of these tracks, look even worse than tracks in Race 07.

There is only a handful of functional tracks for me, as most old tracks have AI pitting issues or randomly pile up in the middle of the race after Kunos changed the AI codes in 1.7. How do I even race if the AI doesn't even work?

Modders, especially AC modders are fickle, one moment they are extremely motivated with weekly updates. Then, all the sudden, they disappeared without continuing to patch their tracks with issues brought by new patches.

I miss Paul Ricard and Toz Posnan, in particular. Thankfully, there is R3E and Race 07 to get my fix of these tracks.

Paul Ricard is available in AC as a mod. Its players say its one of the best track mods out there - its just that I do not like Paul Ricard. Or more precisely: I hate it. In Raceroom. And in Assetto Corsa. They are made well, yes, its not about the track artists. But as a driving track, I hate PR. A terrible track. Of course, its about taste. Those who like it: enjoy it, please.

The tracks I listed above, drive well. I know it since i frequently use them. Their looks in some cases, especially the older mods, may be a bit outdated (Sentul, Lippo), but then: there are many mods that look better than the default tracks. The tracks I isted, all drive VERY well. And I had and have good races on all of them.

Thats why I listed these. I have some more mod tracks, but in principle I could delete them.

Just to be precise here: all mods I listed either are made new from scratch, or are authorized legal conversions, to my best knowledge. I do not like to be tricke dinto downloading somerthing in good faith that was stolen, I do not wish to be made supporting this kind of theft. And I take it personal if I get lured into that trap. Have had several collisions with according people over the years. A few ones I helped to take out of action, forum-wise.

AC again moves a bit closer to Raceroom in the sounds department. Test video of currently running work on sounds in 1.9:

    RD says:
"Audio in Assetto Corsa has come in for criticism from some corners of the community, with some players even going so far as to create their own Fmod sound packs to download. One such pack, made by well know community member Fonsecker, covers no less than 35 cars across three releases, creating a must have package for many Assetto Corsa players (download here). However the team over at Kunos have been working hard to address some of the know weaker areas of the audio experience in recent builds, and the new preview once again shows some impressive progress. Still not quite on the level of acknowledged industry leaders RaceRoom Racing Experience, the new preview does offer up a considerable improvement over the current offerings from the studio."

Porsche pack 1 comes on Octobre 25th. There will be a price-reduced season-pass for all three Porsche packs. Pack 1 will contain

    911 Carrera S,
    935 Moby Dick
    918 Spyder
    Cayman GT4 Clubsport
    718 Cayman S
    917/30
    911 Carrera RSR 3.0 1974
    .

Patch 1.9 will come with free 60's version of Silverstone, and a free Porsche Panamera G2.

I wonder whether the Porsche license Kunos obtained, is an exclusive deal like Porsche did with EA years back, or is Porsche open for other studios/games as well? I havent read any word about this. Translated, it means: is there a chance Raceroom will get Porsches?

Kunos' Porsche license is not exclusive in a sense no other studio can obtain it after EA's deal ends. The fact Kunos was able to get Porsches even though EA's deal was still active makes it "exceptional" in this case.

That's what I've gathered from various sources.

I remember reading that the modder who started with 917/30 was struggling with physics, as the car turned out to be an understeering pig in AC. So I wonder how much the physics have been fudged in order to make it drivable?

First we need to see that something indeed has been "fudged" there - then we can talk on what and how it has been "fudged".

We will find out on October 25th.

Kunos' licensing manager has confirmed on Facebook that AC will get Laguna Seca.

Release date: "in a few months" (original quote).

No idea why you got a dislike for that one Skybird, Laguna is a favorite of mine and a laserscanned version will allow quite a few personal challenges of beating Randy Pobsts times set on Motortrend kinda like the ol' Beat the driver who should not be named in the 458/Imola. Good fun, and a field where AC shines the strongest.

Laguna is one of the tracks in Raceroom I drive quite often, its an interesting track. Lets see how Kunos will visually implement it. Laserscanning will add a certain physics quality, but then this is only important when the physics engine can make use of it. The way Raceroom sees tracks and car physics interacting, is quite convincing in many cars. Kunos has increased the care for visual details in their recent track releases, however, maybe not to Raceroom standards, but still.

Its nice to get it for AC as well.

They seem to work down a list of results from a track poll they did two years ago. If they already are at Laguna, I seem to recall that Suzuka was rated higher, so this probaly is bad news, meaning that we probably will never get Suzuka (I would expect to see too high financial investment needed).

All true about the scanning, when I said it plays the AC's strengths I meant taking say Godzilla for a spin trying to beat Pobsts time.

"Porsche Pack part1" is now released, and as usual i couldn't resist trying it out... :)
Took a lap with 2 of the (imho) most intersting cars in the first part of the Porsche pack around RedBull Ring :

    * Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 1974
    * Porsche 917/30 CanAm 1973

Yes, all is out, 1.9 and Porsche pack 1. Content and changelog here:

    http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/assetto-corsa-v1-9-porsche-vol-1-dlc-deployed.127528/

The 8 Porsches of today, 7 of them simply are fascinating, just one, Moby Dick, without doubt is not my thing, behaves like a battleship during harbour regatta. The modern Porsches are space fighters with immense torque, traction, agility, and incredible brakes, I noticed.

The Silverstone 1967 track leaves me underwhelmed once again, like already historic Monza last time. It simply is boring to drive, I think.

The next wave of Porsches comes on November 22th, the third and last one on Decembre 20th. A season pass with a -25% discount is available for the three packs.

With this pack today, Assetto Corsa for me got two or three of the most fascinating cars in its car pool so far. Brilliant stuff. The hype was not for no reason.

Beyond that, tyre model version 10 deployed to more cars (GT3), and a strong focus on sound improvements. Tyre squealing and wind being some of the most noticable changes (for the better indeed).

And now back to the stuff. Those Porsches mean brilliant driving indeed. I did not expect it to be that good. Superb.
