The BMW DTM M4 steering wheel is (in my opinion) one of the best looking steeringwheels out there.

Last week i decided to make one my self for my accuforce pro. Here's the result:

    Thanks,

Total material cost for without the QR was around 135 euro. The AF QR is 150 euro.

I think it took me about 30 hours of labor for
    - design the wheel in sketchup
    - cutting out by hand
    - painting the wheel and each induvidual button
    - modifying the fanatec handgrips to fit to the DTM wheel
    - design a backplate housing and magnetic shifters and 3 printing them

Here's a picture of the BMW DTM4 steering wheel compared with the Fanatec Formula. It lower and wider.

    Which would be ideal.
I find the Fanatec Formula just a tad too small for driving DTM (and some GT3 cars).
    Great work HoiHman !
I wish Fanatec would bring it out :D

Great job! I wish I had that one too. I'm also wondering why Fanatec only had the formula rim. Perhaps the small size is related to the low torque of the wheelbase. They promote the size as an advantage. I think the main reason is the low torque. I mean you can feel it when you put on a bigger wheel. Then you have to crank up the firce feedback a bit. Anyway, it would be nice they had a Mercedes, BMW, generic, wheel. I would order mine right away :)

Wow.... just wow! This is just awesome! I love this DTM M4 wheel. This is the most splendid formula style wheel I ever saw! @HoiHman I know you just made these for your own use, but may I ask if is there is a possibility that you make sort of a DIY manual. Nothing special, but perhaps a part list (perhaps with a supply source), drawing for the measurement of the metal plate and a wiring sketch? I wouldn't even mind paying for this (for your time and effort).
    Howsoever, awesome wheel(s)!

    Thanks Thomas,

Sorry but right now there are no DIY plans available. A lot of stuff was made up and adjusted in the creation process. I had to cut the Fanatec handgrips on sight. I still working on some new ideas and i am considering building a small series of DTM wheels in a couple of months if there's enough interest.

I'm also looking into creating my own handgrips and have finished my first prototype.

@HoiHman Absolutely amazing work. Would've bought such wheel made from you in an instant.

How did you remove Fanatec logo from Formula rim? I'd like to put Mercedes logo on mine, won't be as cool as your :) but still bit closer to DTM wheel.

The Fanatec logo can be removed by heating it and sliding a sharp flat blade underneath it.

    It's just a sticker

The CSW wheel is designed to only work with a CSW rim connected.

The BMW DTM M4 rim is very light, with the AccuForce QR attached it weighs only 1175 gram

That's 250gr less than the Fanatec Formula with AccuForce QR.

This results in a very quick and direct feel. Even with a powerfull direct drive like the AccuForce the difference can be felt quite good.
