    In the last race in which I took place, two drivers gained the same number of ip`s (5), for exactly the same reasons, and yet one lost .8 rating and the other gained 1.2.
    Why?

    Can you post a screenshot as there might be a confusion between IPs and reputation - not rating, which is purely based on race finishing position.

    How much Reputaion you gain/lose depends on:
    - number of incident points (less is better);
    - number of corners you passed in that race (more is better);
    - your reputation before the race (if it's high, you gain less from the number of corners and lose more from the incident points).

    That would explain it. The race winner had a 2K rating and 97 rep, and the third place had 1.6K/87 rep. Seems a bit harsh that a really good driver should lose reputation through one contact and one off track, while the other guy gains 1.8 rep for exactly the same thing.

    That´s the way it is, when you get to the top of the mountain a small slip can have more serious consequences than at ground level. Another point to remember is that rep is doubled for the first 20 ranked races so it is possible to gain or lose it quicker than a long time player with the same rep level.

    Seems harsh but how else would it be when the scale only goes up to 100. Although it does lead to somewhat funny situations where a single off track can take like 5 incident free races to gain back the reputation that was lost :D

    Makes perfect sense. They had different reputation, but ended up behaving exactly the same, so the game put them closer to each other by reducing the reputation of the higher one and increasing reputation of the lower one. There's a theoretical driver between them that would neither gain or lose any reputation for the same amount of incident points - probably somewhere around 93 rep.
