This is bad news to me. I love the realistic feeling of R3E but I don´t have the time or patience for complicated races, I like it simple and this kind of things make me stay away from multiplayer. :(

Well in the end you can chose the compund you feel most comfortable with.
But yeah, depending on race length etc the choice will be easy I guess, short races will kinda ask you to use soft tyres in order to stand a chance of winning.

Good thing is right now you're kinda used to using hard tyres, so changing to softs should just be a bonus. It does make a difference and you need to adapt, but it doesn't take hours, you can really get in the groove with these pretty quickly. At least that's my experience for now.

I guess it will be rather simple, of course it will vary a bit depending on driving style and track:
    ~20min - softs
    ~40min - mediums
    ~60min - hards

    Couple of questions:
    1. Does softer compounds generate more heat in tires?
    2. Will there be any rules to set in Single or Multi regarding tires? Like "have to use two different compounds in race"? Something like it was previously in DTM Experience
    3. Will compounds be included in race reports from dedicated server?

Well, ideally we'd end up with sth a bit more complex in terms of long duration races. I'm with J-F here, would definitely expect the softer compound strategies to have a slight edge over just using hards.

    1. AfaIk the temperatures are still very basic in our current testing version and need some work.
    2. I think J-F mentioned that for now there won't be such options. However, new in the mp department will be a warmup sessions inbetween races, in case sb missed that info on the stream. Was just mentioned briefly on the side.
    3. No idea, maybe Georg or J-F know more.

90% of online racing in RR is over short 10,15 and 20 minute races, apart from initially finding a compound that will last the race length not a lot will change, other than having 2 softer compounds so times will drop. Watching the stream last night I'd say any race up to 20 mins chuck on the soft, there you go Gerbuho, back in the game! ;)

What does it mean for leaderboard challenges and competitions?
Allowed to choose your favorite tyre or only able to choose the softer one?

It'll probably be soft by default.

I think that wouldn't be needed in this case as everybody would be doing faster lap times than before.

tyre compounds give an oppurtunity to people who wants more complicated races, but doesn't change nothing to who want simple thing.

if you like to do fast online races you and all the grid will use the soft compound. end of the problem.

    Nice feature to be added!
2 things come to my mind..

    - a dediserver option where you have to start the race on the tires u qualified with
    - for gt3-cars an extra compound which is only just a bit softer/quicker than the one we currently have but naturally wears out quicker

Both of these things are like in real life and should add to the strategic part of the racing..

    Greetings

I asked about tyre pressures elsewhere in this thread, but I think you make a good point here. I agree, perhaps they're not as desirable as I originally thought. :)

For GT3, series like Blancpain only allow one type of dry tire as well as one wet, so seeing as we don't have rain in the sim supporting multiple compounds for GT3 seems like it would detract from realism rather than add to it.

"Only one type (specification and dimensions) of dry-weather tyre and one type of wetweather tyre will be registered per car." -
From the Blancpain sporting regulations 2017.

Re: Item 2 - I think that's the only way to introduce different tyre compounds into shorter races. I very rarely take part in races longer than 20 minutes. Perhaps an option in the race setup to require a compulsory stop and/or tyre change is the answer here, as available in some other sims.

Hopefully tyre compound choice will be on a per series basis or there will be an option to lock one particular compound for the whole grid to use.

Guys, tyre pressures without track temperature are useless...

Luckily there is more than blancpain :)
In Super GT300 (which includes the gt3-cars) most of the cars have a range of tires made for them specifically. and there are different manufacturers.
If i understood correctly the past years, they can choose between different slick-compounds in the race.
Sadly cant find a rulebook for it..
