Question Launching Game Session from Desktop/URL

Are there any plans in the near or distant future to add functionality where a user can launch a game session from desktop or URL?

Would be super, especially if we could also provide a multiplayer server ip and password.

I know there's a huge amount of work in the dev pipeline but this, combined with a way for an external app to get the server list, would keep us meddling kids (me and Stefan) busy and quiet for ages

What exactly do you mean by that?

If you enter the portal via browser you can start the game and put you into the car selection screen for competitions and leaderboard challenges. That looks really promising! What I am talking about should be something very similar. So lets say I put up two raceroom servers I want to join directly into the current qualify session of one of them.

Can I generate/get a link like the above so that I can join?

 

AfaIk that's not possible atm. I take it you would like the link to get a user directly into the game/garage? That would probably pose a problem because as it is right now the car/livery selection has to be done in-game.
I guess it could be possible to include a function to generate links in the server app, but I doubt it would be able to go beyond taking the user to the car selection screen.

Actually, just to the car selection would be enough. No need to throw the user ingame. So if maybe you can find out how to generate link to take the user to the car selection, that would be a total winner.

No problem at all Stefan.

The thing is that there already has to be an automated system that generates those links that let you challenge a particular user's leaderboard time. So everytime someone post a new lb time a link has to be created which takes the user to the right lb challenge/competition and loads the chosen ghost.
That's why I think it wouldn't be impossible to implement something similar in the dedi app.

I'll add this idea to our suggestions board and see what the devs think about something like this cause I agree that this would add some cool opportunities for guys like you.

Had time to check today and this protocol is being used to launch the game...

hopefully one day they will add support to it so that we can generate the key and launch the session for the player

 

Yep, that's what I proposed. It must be possible, cause it works automatically for every lb record. Question is does it need tweaking for dedi servers and how long would it take to implement it in the dedi menu.

But it's up on the request board, as soon as there's news about this you'll hear it.

Bump... We at www.justrace.net and many other racers would love to be able to start Raceroom Experience with a click of button and taken in-game to choose the car and automatically taken onto the track
