Have suffered the odd stutter on the odd track and noticed so have many others!
Well after a bit of digging into it this is the only thing, so far, that has helped at all, has actually completely cured it in the tracks I've tried so far and it appears to be the CPU is the culprit and not so much the GPU, this is very simple to achieve and just as easy to return to default.
Just follow the instructions below and release some more horses!

Go to the start button, choose run, then type msconfig and press Ok.
On the system configuration window, choose the "Boot.INI" tab.

Check “No Gui Boot”, then lower the timeout to a more manageable time.
I choose 3 seconds instead of 30. (windows won’t accept a lower number than 3)

    Next choose advanced options.
This is where you can choose how many processors you have.
Most modern PC's are duo core (2 processors) with some quad core (4 processors) or more,
then choose OK. The Windows default is only 1 core. *

    * In windows there are many SAFE Defaults, that usually do no more than slow Windows down.

Now choose apply and OK, reboot and you should see a marked decrease in boot time,
And an Increase in Run-Time efficiency.

    Hope this helps!

You maybe won't believe it, maybe it's a placebo effect or something, but changing this number does not increase performance. It is for debugging and PCs that have more than 1 physical processor only.
However, a processor is not to be confused with a core! 99 % of PCs have 1 physical processor that is split into several cores, only very few specialised mainboards have two processor sockets.

If you leave the default value (which means to leave the box above the drop-down menu unticked) windows will utilise all available cores automatically.

Would expect that as well, but...you know.....we're talking about Windows (Windoof= Winstupid in German) here (not Linux) :D *just kidding*

Absolutely, I think if it wasn't for MS Office and games, nobody would use Windows...

What I really don't understand is why such settings (which can actually serve a useful purpose) are even available when running Windows in "normal" mode. Some of those, if set wrongly, can actually harm a PC and should really only be accessible through secured mode for debugging.

This process is actually a boot fix that (for some) gives varied performance advantages, I know there is no reason why this should occur but Le Source used to stutter like mad, especially when leaving pits after applying this method I now just get one small jolt as I pass pit entrance, be it computer science or be it witchcraft It helped for me so may help another. I have had no problems since applying this and have not heard of any others trying it getting any problems either, plus, very simple to revert to default, no pain, no gain! ;)

    Yeah, whatever helps, but this

does not have any effect on cpu performance and it's not correct to say that by default windows only uses 1 core, that's all I was pointing out.

I concur entirely, made the mistake of copy and pasting without absorbing that the chap mixes cores and processors. doh!
Still v strange that my stuttering at Spa has improved  will try same on another pc later today and see if it makes any difference, as I said this process was all part of a boot fix from way back when. To excited about Bentley's at the moment! :)
