How do you guys get your steam client to download that fast??
I have a good connection with 30Mb/s, but the highest I get steam to download is 3,7 MB/s!!?.. .

 

Same here. I normally get 25-30 down but Steam is 2.5 down max.

 

Simple answer: college internet connection wins!

That's about right for your line. 1MB (Megabyte) = 8Mb (Megabit), so, 30Mb line should get you a maximum of 3.75MB.

I have Virgin Medias 152Mb Fiber so should get 19MB/s but, the line fluctuates to my benefit quite a bit so can see as high as 20MB/s, geared with my network controller (Killer Network Manager), that allows me to set priorities which is geared for Steam, R3E and uTorrent.

 

But my connection is at solid 30MB/s, just steam client that wont download any faster..

 

Oh well, don't hang your head too low, the maintenance flag hasn't been lifted so you're not missing anything.
The dedi app is still missing anyway, at least for me...

Well you guys do know that Mb's are not the same as MB's right? If your provider promises you 30 Mb (Megabit) download you'll have to calculate what that would be in MB (Megabyte). 1 Mb/Megabit is equal to 125 kilobytes. 125 kilobytes x 8 = 1000 kilobytes = 1 MB.

In other words: You need an 8 Mb connection in order to download with 1 MB per second. So if you have a 30 Mb connection you would have to divide that by 8 and you'll get 30Mb / 8 = 3,75MB

That's the crazy thing Really. Providers say you get 40/50/whatever Mb downloadspeed but after calculating that comes down to 8 times less in MB's.

 

Usually the internet in the college is 100+ Mbits, which 12.5Mbytes/sec.

 

Hmmm Steam says it finished downloading the update but the space on my Hard Drive is the exact same size as before the update. Can anyone else who finished updating verify that this is the same build # you have now 644048?
