Their decision to not allow ALL key commands being freely remappable, is dubious and highly questionable. Got them quite some flak in the early days, and well-deserved.

Another thing I do not like is that they - and many other developers - do not include a text document serving as a manual, where basic stuff like ALL available keyboard commands get listed and all ptions that are not self-explanatory get explained (with some better explanation than just "Button X does function X, here you can affect function X by pressing button X"). Instead of having vital information like this scattered and sometimes hidden in various places and expecting the player/customer to search for it online, they could simply update this document with every new patch or software build they release, and so could forget needing to update and manage the many different online places (if they update them at all, the last lists of AC keyboard commands I saw still were uncomplete and outdated). Basics like this must be considered essential, not optional.

Its not acceptable that players arriving new to the game will play for long time without knowing that this and that functionality may be available to them - if only they would know. The game has to tell them that - or the manual.

I do not buy it that a simple .doc- or .txt-file with such important infomation should be too much asked for.

I did a simple tutorial on the Logitech Profiler how to assign a shift button and so on.
Although it is in german, it might be helpful:

    Edit:
At 03:35 I explain how to use the D-Pad.
At 05:46 I explain how to assign a shift button to your G27.

The console patch 1.03 has been released.
    http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/assetto-corsa-ps4-patch-deployed.126665/

And not before now I fully understood that they will in the end have 24 -in words: twnty-four - Porsches in AC, in three DLCs. Three Porsches will come as free bonus cars.
    http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/assetto-corsa-porsche-preview-images-teased.126644/

I doubt that any other race title can keep up with this Porsche overkill. :D

Rumour says the sim is planned to be renamed to Assetto Porsche in 2017.

As if we need more SUVs when many classes are lacking of competitors, Kunos's priorities are just all over the place while they seemed like they have no plans on expanding the game's content. Other than adding more solo car classes. Most of the content in the game are randomly picked and doesn't compete well with each other. Like how their historic touring car is a mess with the 500, escort and GTA having too much performance differences that racing them is dreadful other than as single makes. Or the game only has one GT1 with the upcoming GT1s to be years if not decade newer than it. How do you have good racing experience when the cars in the class doesn't compete well with each other? Their GT4 class is also an absolute mess with huge performance differences. Instead of expanding and balancing existing classes, adding more SUV is more important despite the game has no off-road tracks. Driving the Levante on Monza is extremely dull after some amusement initially

The game is really lacking of tracks too yet they are focused on delivering more porsches than anything else. Many other manufacturers in the game heavily under-utilised too, like lack of Lotus Espirit when they claim they have full Lotus license.

Don't really play AC these days as the racing is quite terrible. R3E, Pcars, AMS and a WIP title is much more fun than AC these days. AC has great driving physics but the racing experience is dull.

24 Porsches = Amazing, great, superb!

Ok, three if them will be the Macan, Cayenne and Panamera, which IMO have no place whatsoever in a racing game. Urgh.

    Still, 21 others...

Admittedly, two versions of the 919 (2015 and 2016). The 2015 one will be fun for me, but mainly when the Audi or Toyota join it next year. So, 19 others...

But I'm not personally interested in road cars, so the 918, Carrera S, GT3, 718 Boxster and Cayman GT4 hold little interest. So, still 14 to go...

Admittedly, those include the 935/78, a car which raced two or three times at most, and a 917/30, which will be fun but have no competition whatsoever. Same could arguably be said for the 1974 RSR, although I can't complain about that one.

    Still, 11 to go...

Admittedly, one will be the Cup car, which doesn't have competition. But 10 others still...

Looking at the current car list, I'd love to see some that match other content in class, but it seems with every announcement the chances of them look slimmer.

    What would match?
    - There's a C9 and a Mazda 787b on the way, so a 962 would be ideal. I'd say this is nigh-on guaranteed, to the point where the digital version was in the trailer.

    - The last DLC saw the Maserati GT4 added, so the new GT4 Clubsport would be nice and has basically been confirmed.

    - The current RSR and GT3R would be ideal for the GT2 and GT3 categories, especially the latter would be my personal hope.

    - The 908 to compete with the GT40 and upcoming Alfa T33/2 would be sweet, but I don't think it's particularly likely unfortunately.

    - An 804 to compete with the Lotus 25 would be nice, but I consider highly unlikely.

    - The 1996 version of the GT1 would complement the McLaren F1 well, but I imagine the 1998 winning version is more likely.

Now I'm being a bit flippant here, I admit, but with the 962 and GT4CS all but confirmed, there are only 8 spots left. I'd be surprised if the 936, 917k, current GTE and 1998 GT1 don't get included, but it doesn't leave many 'open' spots. Hopefully, whatever does get added finds some competition somewhere down the line...

Interesting interview with their physics guru on how to replicate analog old cars for which no telemetry exists, and a funny story:

    http://petrolicious.com/how-assetto-corsa-s-lead-designer-digitizes-classic-tracks-and-iconic-cars

    LOL :D

    ---

I like that some of the Porsches may end up as competitors for the Maserati Levante SUV, for I like to use the Maserati a lot. The driving experince in AC imo climaxes with the streetcars they use, you feel the physics working in much greater and demonstrating obviousness - right because the car has more time to lay them out before your eyes. For the same reason I like the M4 and M1 and M3 by BMW so much, the Lotus cars, and some more of the "slower" cars".

Instead of complainign about AC's car choices, I think it is more usful to take it as it is: a sim with a greater variety of car classes. There are specialists on the market, Raceroom being an exmaple: it has no street cars at all, just specialised race cars, and related series. I take that fact for what it is as well. Why complaining about Raceroom's "limited" scope? That scope makes Raceroom what it is, and AC's scope makes AC what it is. Why must all titles on the market do all stuff in similiar fashion? We would end up needing just one game then, if they were all the same. ;)

Celebrate the differences! I surely enjoy them a lot.

Another of those rare apparent heavyweight must-have mods has been released, adding plenty of opponents to the F138 that was added to AC with the Red Pack:

Licensing manager Marco Massarutto struck back at these - very! -foolish criticisms of free Porsche content, and does so in his unmistakable personal style. And how right he is!

    http://www.racedepartment.com/threa...nds-to-free-porsche-content-criticism.126815/

I always liked Marco's style, from his first statement on that i ever read by him years ago: Always polite, always friendly, often original - but also always precise and straight to the point.

Personally, I like those Porsche SUVs to come. The Maserati SUV is one of my most used cars already now in AC, and I want it to get some SUV buddies that it can play with.

I'm surprised that Kunos to feel the need to respond to this (infantile) criticism to be honest. I was disappointed to see that the free bits of their upcoming DLC are cars I will (probably) never drive but any sane person isn't going to be upset by this and so surely it's best to just ignore any ranting and not fan the flames

I have no issue with other game's content regardless I like the content or not. Such as I did not complain when R3E added open wheels despite I do not enjoy driving them. I have no problems with streetcars in AC,while in fact, AC has possibly one of the best street cars driving experience for me with the lower end sports cars like 1M, Skylines and so on. AC is a little weak in the supercars, hypercars and modern race cars side though but their classic cars are mind blowing fun to drive.

The problem with AC is, AC's content feel like there isn't any planning involved where they looked like they just take whatever they can get for the lowest price. Almost all the content in AC, probably excluding GT3s and the road cars, have no planning how the content will go with other licensed content, resulting a mess in car classes in AC. A lot of content in AC just don't mix well with others. Probably it is too late to change for many manufacturers as licensing deals were done possibly years ago but even with newer manufacturers, they did not attempt to fix the content issues.

For example, their Group A is an absolute mess compared to the R3E or pcars version with the Alfa Romeo 155 DTM dominating the Mercedes Benz 190E and BMW E30 because the 155 is a vastly better car. I find it really hard to enjoy a Group A race in AC, even though with really well done driving physics because the 155 is way too fast.At the end, I usually get my Group A fix in R3E or pcars. Same goes for their GT4 with the really slow BMW M235i, a good match of Lotus 2-11 and Maserati Grand Turismo GT4 and lastly, Lotus Evora GX destroying all the cars on the grid as it's an US market uptuned version for PWC. Their historic touring also have the same problem, as the Fiat 550 Abarth, Ford Escort and Alfa Romeo GTA are not on the same league. AC's GT1 also have the same problem, where they have a Mclaren F1 short tail, but they decided to license a Porsche 911 GT1 from the late 90s and a 2010 Maserati MC12 GT1. Those 3 GT1s will not match well with each other remotely.

Meanwhile, they have a wealth of access to many manufacturers where other developers could only dream yet they licensed some of the worst selections of vehicles in a racing game. AC has Group A in their game, somehow they did not license a Nissan R32 Group A to go with their selection or completely missed out a Lotus Espirit when they have full license to Lotus. Also, they tend to license random vehicles with no planning on how to fit into existing content like the Porsche 935 Moby Dick will be another non-single make racing class featured in AC as a single make when in R3E we have 7 unique car models to play with. Despite they have a wealth of manufacturer such as Nissan, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet, Ferrari, and so on to have an expanded Group 5 class. I am not saying they need to get every single Group 5 cars they can get, but at least attempt to get a few so that the class isn't another single car class in AC. Meanwhile, many other cars such as a Chevrolet Camaro, a Ford Focus, a Ferrari 288GTO, a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, a Lotus Espirit(seriously, this is becoming a joke in Kunos licensing where they can get almost a dozen of Evoras yet no Espirit), Alfa Romeo 330 Tipo and so on are strangely absent. I feel most licenses are heavily underutilised in AC because the licensing in AC is incredibly unbalanced. For example, they could obtain 24 Porsches and 18 or so Lotus yet Mercedez-Benz only has 3 cars, Chevrolet has 2, Ford has 2 and so on when these licenses can provide easily a dozen of cars for them. It felt like AC license some of these manufacturers just to show that they have the brand without much content for the game.

The licensing of the Levante, Macan and Cayenne had further solidified that Kunos really does not what how they content will fit together. Just randomly licensing whatever they can get, regardless does the content fit into the game cohesively while missing out other great content that will go well with existing content. Meanwhile, the SUVs just doesn't really fit into the game because it's largely tarmac racing with little tracks to cruise around. If AC has offroad racing, I don't think it would be that bad. I remembered that they said they cancelled some promised cars, like the Alfa Romeo 330 Tipo that will go well with their Ford GT and the road version of P4/5. Then, when you look at R3E/pcars/AMS's content, you can see how well the respective developer try to ensure all the content fit together with non-single make classes having something to race with and they are quite reasonably balanced.

The other problem with the SUVs in AC is, an average joe won't know these cars were made originally for the manufacturer's showroom simulator. Kunos added them into the game since they have the model and data prepared. An average joe would have thought that they are wasting precious resources to provide these content when they could make a new Group C, GT1 or LMP1. I think this is why people are pissed with the whole SUV fiasco while Marco just being arrogant over it as usual, thinking that they are always right while the players are idiots.

I know it is unavoidable to have single car classes for non-single car model series as many games has this problem like the Mustang GT3 in R3E previously, C-Coupe DTM in pcars, Ferrari F1 in AC and so on. I have no problems with single make racing classes but I really do not like multi-car models classes having on one car. The problem is, AC just doesn't even attempt to solve the problem but ignores it and make it even worse by getting more cars to form more lone classes. Then, the in-game car selection menu somehow just dump everything together regardless it's much faster or slower than other cars in the category that will result in some really terrible racing.

Each time I boot up R3E/pCARS/AMS, I know I will experience a great racing experience with mixed car models for non-single make racing classes with plenty of unique tracks to race on. While for AC, almost everything in the game should be raced in a single make because almost nothing is put into the game cohesively or competes well with other car models. Especially comparing to R3E, the way S3 fit all the content together is like a clockwork. The graphics in R3E might be dated but how each content fits in cohesively is something that I find remarkable.

AC is a great driving game, possibly the best in the market but as a racing game, it is awful in so many ways. The AI, track content, and feature wise is quite inferior compared to other games. Maybe it is just me, licensing for Kunos is like Pokemon: Gotta catch them all and do little with most of them after that.

Maybe it is due to my preferred race selections, I stick mostly to GT3, sportcars, small sportcars, sometimes hypercars, Lotus 25, sometimes the classics, the Abarths. If I set up a race and do not jix these classes, but only have cars form one and the sam ecategory, the cars usually match quite well on track. I go at AI levels around 88-92%.

In Raceroom, some car classes added that would not have been expected, became quite popular. At RD just was mentioned the Audi TT as an example. Right the slowness and low entry level allows for close and exciting pack racing. And if ther eis one range fo cars where AC excels even by its own high standards, then it is the ordinarym, the slower street cars. I do Abarth races at Magione frequently. Its too much fun. For the same reason, I prefermany of the ordinary BMWs, or the Maserati SUV.

Really, it is more about taste than about anything else here. AC can serve many tastes, but it specialises NOT exclusively in racecars, like Raceroom does. If you want to do series and racecars and only these, you better use Raceroom. If more diversity or especially streetcars are your thing, AC is the better choice. A wide focus, a narrow, concentrated focus - everybdoy can chose!

    I chosed both.

Multiclass is definetly not recommended in AC, Kunos says that themselves. The AI's design structure works not well in compensating for multiclass specifications.

AC's car pool is diverse, and I see that neither as a strength nor a weakness. It is what it is. Raceroom is specialised on series and dedicated racecars, AC or GT are offering more diversity. If anythign, this is a question of taste. Considering the huge modding and online gaming activity AC triggers (its the most active race sim title currently), obviously it makes some things right in many people's opinions.

I have currently around 70 tracks installed, most of them obviously mod tracks and variations. But the tracks I drive most, are the Kunos factory tracks. And here, the Nordschleife. I drive Nordschleife the most in Raceroom, too. Its the Nordschleife - what else to explain... I cannot complain about the track selection there is no by default, even if not including the DLCs, but with them, the track list looks even more impressive, of course. If you want a weak-looking content list, look at rF2 - and that after 4 years... ;)

On the current tdebate in AC, about the free content Porsches, I find it simpyl disgusting. The cars are fully-fledged content that yiu can use or not use, like you wish. And people attack Kunos for offering them? For free? As a gift? How crazy, how disgusting is thing? Its not a foul compromise. Its not some half-baken content that was started and then left unfinished and now gets thrown after the customers, ike some remainign garbage.

Also, I recently checked the prices for AC and DLCs. Germna Steam had it last week for 30 bucks. THIRTY bucks. I myself paid less than 60 bucks for ALL content there is. What is there to complain about in free content when considering the enormous wuality all the cars and tracks have...? Some people really have lost all standards. I have somtimes posted in an announcement thread of Raceroom when they previewed upcoming new cars. Some cars I welcomed, other cars I said that I am not espcially waited for them. But I did not complain, or worse: attacked them over their choices. When I say I am not so much interested in a car, tis is only meant to add one ore voting that allows them to overview whether they are on a more or less popular path with their choices. Why should I personally attack Sector3 over their choices? Why should I attack Kunos if they release new content as well, and even for free...???

Some people really need to lay back and start inhaling deep breaths.

And yet AC feels dead to me. I think it is the combination of physics, ffb, sounds and sterile enviroment. Pretty essential stuff for a race sim, eh?

Yes, but nobody forces you to play this one. Like I have chosen to avoid rF2, as one example - for exactly the same arguments you just listed; and many woudl disagree with me on rF2, I know that. On AC, I see it different than you do. But our two different choices must not be a problem neither for you nor for me! ;) We both simply avoid to invest time and money into what we do not like.

At least we seem to agree on Raceroom - we would not be here, if we both would not like it.

You are want to brush off the issues with AC, dont you? You did the same with R3E in AC forum, now AC too. No game is perfect in the market which I can even go on and on on whats wrong with pcars, despite that is still the most played racing game for me. Even tremendously flawed games like The Crew or Milestone games has it's strengths that even the best in the genre failed at it.

There are issues with multiclass but in some combinations I tried, GT3-hypercars-track day hypercars are surprisingly a good combination with little multiclass issues. Another good combo is most of GT4 in AC with the mod Seat Leon Cupra and TT Cup.

And I wasnt even talking about the multiclass issues that the AI obvious cannot handle it. I was talking about the problem with how AC license it's content with very little conhesion where the only way to enjoy a lot of content is running it as a single make. Even for cars that isn't originated from single make series. Such as upcoming Moby Dick has nothing to race with when R3E has 7 wooping Group 5s to mess around. I was speaking about the problem of cohesion of AC's content which Kunos did not bother to address it but made it even worse. And for me me, I dislike driving multicars series as single make if the car is solely designed for a multicar series.

Also, I did not complain on the issue if single make series if the car originates from single series, such as TT Cup in R3E, Huracan ST in AC or RS01 in pcars. These are designed as single makes so it is fine to run them as single makes. Not cars like Ford GT, Mclaren F1 GT1 or Ford Escort where they do have actual competitors in real life and Kunos has the license or capabilities to get them. I hope you could understand the difference between single makes and multicar series.

The SUVs are an unwelcomed content for a game like AC. I'll will complain the same if R3E or pcars gets SUVs when there is no content suitable for these cars as SUVs are pretty dreadful to drive on technical race tracks. It was fun to drive around in Levante for a couple of races and the novelty wears off, with a feeling that it is a content that was shoved in like an advert. With no cohesion among many of the game's other content. It is a waste of resources for produce something like this when there are plenty of more fitting cars from existing manufacturer can be added. It like going to a shop to buy a pair of men's jeans, you are given a pair of bra that you have absolutely no use for it that you cannot refuse or comment on it.

Most of the mod tracks are broken if not shoddy rFactor mods, having the high numbers of 70 does not mean the lack of tracks issues is non-existance. Another example of you trying to brush off a genuine issue with AC. And, assuming that everyone drives on Nords 24/7 is incorrect. As much as I love Nords which i bought R3E version very soon after release, I did not spend even half of my time on it because there are many other fantastic tracks in R3E to enjoy. As you said, everyone has different tastes yet you assume that most if not all should spend most of their time on Nords. AC's track list for me is a major issue, there isnt enough of them and we only got 2 more in 2016 which is not enough.

The problem with AC community is, there is no space for any criticism at all where if yu criticise, you'll get scoded back for being ungrateful. Every criticism is just brushed away while Kunos beng arrogant that they are always right. Heck, even some good modders, like Fonsecker who actually worked as a sound engineer at Automaniax. He was banned for suggesting improvements for AC's sound designs. I hate going to their forums, it is going to a cult that will hang you alive if you did not like what they like.

There is difference between criticism and insult, clearly, you do not how to do differenciate both.

The AC physics feels like it is on a constant steady state where it does not change regardless of what the condition is. Try to torture the tires in AMS/pcars/R3E, you'll see the car start to behave differently after a certain period with varying speed in different game. Yet in AC, the tire feels largely the same the game even if you try to mess around with the tires.

There are many things AC does really well, such as weight distribution, suspension modelling, cockpit atmosphere that feels like being in a car and so on. I won't say it's bad, in fact, AC cars are good fun for me until I hit the cohesionless content issue or burnout from GT3. R3E still does GT3 the best in the market, IMHO.

Don't really have much of a problem with FFB, sounds and environments despite I think the competitors does it better. Environments are quite stale though, especially after playing R3E's Nords which it felt so lifely.

The SUVs were done for contract reasons, there is no "waste", therefore I don't get the religious complaints about them, given they are free. A lot of times it feels like folks ignore the mechanics of the real world, how deals come together... maybe because it's games/hobby they don't want to be reminded that you can't escape certain realities.

Other points you make I can agree with.

Just curious then. If you had the Porsche license and free reign to select cars with, what would you choose instead of one of the most iconic racing cars of all time?

Did you similarly say the same thing about the IMSA Audi in R3E, the super V8 in AMS, or any of the single GT1/GT3/GT4 cars in rF2? The Audi in R3E was clearly just the starting point to expand the class, which took how many years to do? AMS has a ton of single car classes, as does rF2 who probably has the most heinous examples one could mention.

What does this mean? "A game like AC" ? Why are they unwelcome? You can have just as much fun slogging those around a track as you can with the NSU in R3E for instance. Whip that tail out and have at it! :)

Also, bit contradictory to slam AC for having single car classes, and then also slam them when they expand those classes by adding more SUV's from Porsche.

Absolutely true. However, this is an issue with every single game that allows for modding. 100% of them. rF1/2 have tons of awful mods, AMS only has track mods from Patrick Giranthon that are worthwhile, GSCE has tons of crappy rF1 mods, Race 07/GTR2 had crappy mods... This isnt unique to AC, so isnt really a point of blame for them, since this is universal.

I would say without AC, we wouldnt have very much scratch made content appearing in sim racing. Since rF2's modding didnt take off at all, and what did... is just crappy rF1 converts. Plenty of good cars and tracks for AC, but if you dont like what is available, so be it. Taste is subjective.

Agree, definitely an issue. Wish they had a handful more as well.

Dont agree here. AC just like every other sim racing community has its bad apples, that's a given. However, those that have been banned have clearly deserved it and those with legitimate criticism are heard. As well as those reporting bugs. You can be an adult about it and describe the issue along with reporting how to reproduce the issue, or you can be a man-child and swear at the devs and call them worthless human beings for letting a bug slip through. Which sounds like the proper way to get your issue looked at? Or simply the proper way to behave on a forum? Race Dept. is littered with shining examples of how not to act. :p

This is completely untrue. Fonsecker was banned for being a dick to Kunos devs. He even confirms this is what happened. He was unhappy with an update months back and said the sound guy should be fired and was speaking in a very rude tone. He later apologized and hasnt been a dick since then, and hasnt had any issues being disciplined since.

In the end though, AC seems to choose its content in a manner that isnt some hardcore sim folks seem to demand. They offer a wide selection of content, and more road cars than anyone else. They offer you a driving experience where each car has its own character and feeling. Other games like R3E focus on real world series and let you battle it out in a WTCC or DTM field. Neither take is wrong, they just offer different things. And since every game offers its own unique content and driving experience... you can simply get what you feel you are missing in another game. No one game does it all, nor does it need to.

    Cheers
