It's been confirmed that the new TM wheel will be a Direct Drive wheel, this is good news, the price is going to be interesting..

This is what I've been thinking, given it's official for a console racer, it has to be priced in an affordable manner otherwise people just won't buy it, it could end up bring the price of DD wheels down or at least start a price war with more specialized wheel manufacturers, also, it'll draw more attention to DD wheels in general.
The real question is though, will (if it's PC compatible) Sector3 support it within R3E?

I can't imagine TM would make a Direct Drive wheel and it wouldn't be compatible for the PC.

I just hope they worked out thier reliability problems, that was what kept me from going for a TM Wheel.
Going to wait and torture my old trusty DFGT some more :D

i hope they'll also sell it as a base only. don't want that rim, I'll stick with my 599XX

and I also don't like a GT branding on my stuff.

Lets hope it has a real quick release system, not a screw and a big plastic nut..

Darn scrub that wish, watch the vid closely and it looks like the same fitting as the T500.

would be rather pissed as well if they changed the attach system to something incompatible with past

very curious to see what comes out of this, but great news for all of us, can only mean lower prices for direct drive overall.

Some more details on what Thrustmaster deems to be direct drive would be good. Here is a good article by Berney Villers Jr. which is both interesting and informative on the differences between the various drive systems common in current sim steering wheels.

Here is the wheel with commentary by AussieStig ... notice he admits nobody actually knows if it is DD and only speculation based on some observations at this point in time. Interesting.

I think that they release a new System and all old rims cant be attached.

Im rly excited about this one.

    What do you think guys...

Wheel only or wheel with pedals?

How much is the Prize or how many would you pay?

Well I'm hoping for Base only, but it will probably come with wheel, hopefully no pedals as part of a package. As for price, I think they need to be clever here, if they go to high it wont sell, I'm expecting it to come in around the £750/850 mark, above that and there are and will be better choices..

T500 RS was 500€ at launch, so this will be higher. They sell servos independent now, whether they do it at launch as well we will see, but expect them to do so. Sould go for less than 750 pund/ 1000€ to have a better mass market appeal. 600-800€ I'd think. While I have no experience with DirectDrive, I wonder if one really needs the high torques that some of the wheels produce, in the end we are mostly after eliminating the mechanical lag, not so much peak torque I guess.

This will not be a direct drive system like open sim wheel project or accuforce, probably something using planetary gears or similar. Price will be similar to T500 which it replaces in the current lineup. I would bet on it.

The back of the housing of the motor you see the back of something that could perfectly be a direct drive motor. maybe not a big one but suitable for mass consumer market.
