Will an Nvidia 970 run Raceroom at 60fps+ at 2560x1440?

I'm debating whether to buy a 24" 1080p screen or a 1440p QHD 27" screen (currently using my laptop's built in 15.6" screen!), but am not sure whether my GPU has enough power to get 60fps+ at 1440p in R3E with high-ish detail settings. My GPU is an Nvidia 970M - it's not as powerful as the desktop Nvidia 970 GTX, though not far off, and mine seems happy overclocked to +135Mhz GPU +250MHZ vRAM, which brings it even closer.

I can easily run Raceroom with pretty much everything maxed at 1080p at well over 60fps (depending on AA settings used can get up to about 95fps or so), but am not sure how it will cope at 1440p. What results do other Nvidia 970 owners see with 1440p resolution and Raceroom?

I don't want to get a 1080p 27" screen as in Windows everything just looks too big to me and and don't want to use scaling. Similarly I don't really won't to scale the display down to 1080p for Raceroom, if using a 1440p screen, as running at a non-native resolution never seems to look as good to me.

Also, thinking forwards, I'll probably replace my PC with a new one in 2 years, so if getting a 27" screen, would seem short-sighted to get just a 1080p one...

There is your answer... just do it, monitor is gonna live for a longer time, would not save there.

I run tripples (1920 1200) with the desktop card, it works mostly fine, not maxed out however and will replace with gf 1080 once prices get sane.

I'm not sure if nvidia laptop drivers have the option but you can look for enabling DSR factors in the "manage 3d settings" menu in the nvidia control panel. Once you select the DSR factors (1.5x or 2x should do it), new resolution options will be available in R3E. What this will do is allow you to render the game at a higher than native resolution on your current laptop screen to see how well your gpu can handle the extra load. If you are happy with the performance you will know you wont be disappointed when you get the new monitor.

Okay, am tempted, though I barely have enough space for a 27" screen.

This one seems to have quite thin Bezels which may help:

    Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

Or there's the Benq XL2730z, though it's Freesync, and I've always tended to be an Nvidia guy:

Then there's the more expensive (but IPS) Acer Predator XB271HU, though the Lulz gamer styling is a real turn off, and the build quality of Acer isn't as good as Benq or even Asus...

Thanks, though DSR factors are not listed in the Nvidia Control Panel for my 970M.

Hmmm... I'm having second thoughts now, after doing some more research it seems the laptop Nvidia 970M is considerably less powerful than a desktop 970 GTX...

I just bought a 34 inch not long ago.
2560x1080, i have a Gtx970 and it runs well above 60fps with everything at max.
Cockpit view at nords is around 86 fps avg.
Of course if you go hood view it goes way above 100fps

I have a benq xl2730z at running at 2560 x 1440 with a gtx970, i also have connected to the same gpu a smaller 22" monitor i use for telemey, hud and dash apps.
I run with max settings and never drop below 60fps unless i have silly amounts of AI which i almost never do, i have tried 99 AI and at certain times i went down to about 25-30fps, 99 AI on nurburgring combined takes about 7 mins to get through turn 1.

The 970M doesn't compare at all to the 970 desktop.
    It's more around a 960 than the 970.

    But don't be afraid.
    I was running r3e with a 660ti on a 34" screen WI H a 3440x1440 resolution.
You may have to lower some graphics, mostly the AA and the shadows. But otherwise it should run good

I've decided not to risk it and instead go for the high FPS/refresh route, buying a 144Hz 24" 1080p 16:9 monitor - especially as I noticed that last night was the last day Benq's own EU store was offering €90 off the Benq XL2430T monitor and free delivery (so €309 / £239). It's not G-Sync/Freesync, but then my laptop doesn't support that, but does support output up to 144Hz. From all the reviews I've read, it looks like a good quality monitor, and will fit better in my current workspace than a 27" screen.

I think I'd rather wait until I have a PC capable of driving a higher resolution display at decent fps and that supports G-Sync/Freesync before investing in a larger, more expensive display (or just skip that and go VR at that point).

24" is still going to be a massive step up from my current 15.6" laptop display!

    What make you think that?
The GeForce 970M does support G-sync and your laptop does have a display port 1.2 output.
You don't need more to be compatible with G-sync feature.

(I had G-sync with my old 660ti, working good!)

The 970M can support G-Sync, but my laptop doesn't support G-Sync output, this has been confirmed when I discussed this directly with XMG and through related support forums. It's something to do with how the miniDisplayPort output signal is routed due to Optimus.

The newer XMG laptops do support G-Sync output, but not my model, unfortunately. I researched this carefully before making my decision about whether to pay the extra for a G-sync monitor or not.
