Not posted here for a while! Done plenty of things over the winter. First up are the kick plates/sill protectors: Wet laid 3-plys of cloth: Passenger side: Wet sanded and lacquered: Stickers to match the OEM kick plates: All done!
Some more stuff... Lacquered the tail lights so they're good as new: Made gurney flaps, in two different sizes: Some aero options/tweaks. This one is designed to help the extraction of air from the oil coolers: A flap for the intercooler exit, again to help extraction - needs a clearcoat to finish it off: Also working on some dive planes:
Lockdown over here separated me from my race car, but now it's back on. I finished off the bonnet louvre I'd started..
Also completed the rear wheel arch liners in carbon/kevlar. First stage; In progress; These are for behind the rear wheels Finished and fitted And the rear ones too
There's also a bit more CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) happening. This time, it's for the flat floor which will sit below the engine bay. You might need some imagination to see what's happening here! Rotary engines, especially those with turbochargers are well known for kicking out a hell of a lot of heat, so I've had to consider that heavily here. The square cutouts you see are for separate panels, which may be made of a different material which is happier in heat, or they could just be left completely open. The round holes are for the air jacks feet to protrude though. Here's the first stage of making the actual part. Three layers of carbon fibre being infused with resin - that's the darker part.
I wish i had the skills to do something like this, i really admire people who are making something like this.
A little bit more progress (and many hours of work) on the flat floor section. Aluminium mounting points & 10mm core foam, followed by 3 more layers of carbon cloth. Resin is fully infused, now has to be left for a week to fully cure, then it can be trimmed and fitted.
A couple of pictures from the achive tonight. I took the car down to bare metal by hand (an forgot to take any pictures) - these are after priming all over and painting the interior and engine bay.
Hi Alex, how are you placed to help with the suspension setup/calcs, as still keen on some carbon parts for our FD, Cheers
Hi @Mark Crabbe yes I'm getting closer to having the space and time to be able to produce some parts. I'll be in touch when.
The (almost) finished article shown in progress above. Almost too nice to put underneath the car where it'll undoubtedly collect a lot of scratches and scrapes.
