    Hello.

I'm trying to create a dedi server on a Win 8.1 machine, but keep getting the following error message:

    I have tried the following:
    Turn off anti virus.
    Turn off fire walls.
    Opened 60000, 60001 and 60002 ports.
Run as administrator both through Steam and stand alone.
Tried running Google Chrome as default browser in case it prefers this to Firefox.

Strange thing is, it runs just fine on our other Win 7 machine, so I'm a bit stumped.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

No replies so I assume it's just my machine, but does anyone from S3S have any suggestions?

OK. Tried updating windows again and now have the following error:

"External component has thrown an exception".

    Hi

Are you running AVG, Trusteer Rapport or another anti virus? Looks like it's a common problem that occurs due to Anti Virus software.

Hi, Sonat. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have Avast! anti-virus on my Win 8.1 machine however as I mentioned above, I have tried disabling it and all fire walls as well without success.

In addition, I also have Avast! anti-virus installed on our Win 7 machine, and the server starts up just fine on that one.

Is it maybe something particular to the Win 8 environment? Can others run it OK on Win 8.1 machines? Does the 'Unhandled Exception' error log give any clues?

    Thanks.

Yeah we don't have any reports similar to this, let alone specifically for Win 8.1 but then again a lot of people have upgraded to Win 10.

Have you tried adding an exception for dedi application and the ports instead of disabling them altogether?

I'll give that a shot and come back with the result.
    Thanks.
