Rev Limiter - Engine damage on upshifts?

    In R3E if you hit the rev limiter while going up through the gears you receive engine damage. Why is this? The rev limiter is there to prevent over-revving the engine when going up through the gears. Now if I downshift too quickly & over rev the motor causing damage then I understand.

    At which cars you see this?
    The older ones haven't got a limiter I think.

    I haven't ran R3E in a while but it happened with the Nissan & Bentley GT3 cars in a quick race I ran at Mid Ohio earlier today.
