This is a constructive complaint and a suggestion for the Devs. I have enjoyed playing RRE especially with the DTM 2013 Mod. Here's my current issue with the game and the way it's designed. I purchased just one Mod and it's not uncommon see updates for 2GB+ in my Steam account. The last update was 2.9GB, why? When all I have is 1 Mod. It appears the Devs feel the need to give you the entire game whether you bought 0 Mods or ALL of them. You can't log in until you install the massive updates, sheesh. Come guys, it's pretty simple, download and have us install what we paid for and just push incremental updates. You can't play offline in Steam and now this. I decided to pull the plug on this game and buy rFactor 2 instead.
Yes the updates are large, but they're not that frequent. It does allow you to enter the open competitions too, you know, the ones where you can use content that you haven't bought yet. It also allows you to try any of the vehicles to see if you like them without having to download it just in case. I honestly can't think of a better way around this.
This^ And they also updating the core game / UI and do optimization on those patches, wouldn't want to be without that?.. It's also nice when you finally do buy something that you instantly get acces to it. And this is how it's handled in pCars as well what goes for the DLCs, so it's not only R3E doing this.
This is common practice among games. A lot of games have all DLC included only to be activated with a key. Internet speed or disk space shouldn't be the reason imho to stop playing a game. R3E is "only" 16GB, its still a lot smaller then X-Plane with 93GB
Just bought rFactor 2 the other day on steam. Haven't played it enough to give it a fair judgment yet, but so far I favor rFactor 1 over 2..
That's a new one on me, this sim is tiny in comparison to most popular titles and this method has been used for years, "cutting one's nose off to spite one's face" springs to mind. How long before this is turned into a business model thread!
