Is there a way to get this ported to Linux? Not that I mind windows, I just feel Linux is more user friendly
You can be an application champion in Wine or Crossover and see if you can get it to work. As a long time linux user, I would not bet on it. I use the Dark Side for gaming......you probably won't get drivers for your wheel or other devices either, unless you want to write them yourself. Good luck.
hi, We the -]tb[- Team did test Race07 Dedi Server's on Linux with an emulated Windows Box.It worked fine.Think it's one Year ago or so.I forgot the name of the Emulator, was build-in Linux and not Wine.It was because of this stupid Hacker kid "L". I think Linux/Unix is always the better Solution for Server's.But why use an Emulator.I hope the S3S Dev's will bring the Dedi Server also for Linux. That should not be a Big Thing.
Porting the Complete Sim or in an Emulator...believe me,simply forget it.Sorry, that's my oppinion.I think that is to much Work. For the Dedi Server should not be a Problem.
Sorry for rescue this post from the past. Is there any chance of get RaceRoom Linux support? Things have changed radically in the last years. As many of you know the graphics drivers are much better now, even in AMD, there is better support for peripherals, at least in Logitech, there is a much more settled player base and multiple racing games with support for our system have great success (F1 2017, DIRT Rally, Grid Autosport ...) We also have a very advanced multiplattform graphics API, that works with great succes and performance, its name is Vulkan. Obviously a native version of RaceRoom would be the best option.... less problems and complications for everyone, but the other option would be to facilitate the use of Steam Play-Proton with its software. Currently it doesn't work, which is a pity. I have successfully played Steam Play with Project Cars, rFactor 2 or Automobilista thanks to this utility. In case you don't have a native version, Steam Play-Proton is the solution.
Hi @leillo1975 I think everybody would be happy if Raceroom could be brought to Linux, but as of now I don't think chances are very high for that to happen any time soon. Sector3 is a tiny studio and it would probably need a lot of work. As you might know, RR is still running in DX9 and before considering a port I would assume an api upgrade would have to be in place (favourably Vulkan). But you saying "we" made me wonder wether you might be an active Linux developer with a serious programming background and ambitions to maybe move this topic forward? If so, I'd encourage you to contact @J-F Chardon here or on our Discord (preferred): https://discord.gg/fUT4Bdw . Best regards
When I said "we" I meant the Linux community. Unfortunately I'm just a simple user, but maybe you could talk to Ryan Gordon ( @icculus ) or Ethan Lee ( @flibitijibibo ) about this. They are experienced programmers who have made multiple game ports from Windows to Linux. Maybe someone else sees this and fits the profile you're looking for. I would really be very happy to play Raceroom on my system, and you would be the first to arrive with a SimRacing game on our system.
Recently I write a post on Reddit about the current state of SimRacing on Linux: https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/ble2xg/current_state_of_simracing_in_linux/
In past I was trying to execute RaceRoom with Steam Play Proton, but I had an error when I run it: Can't connect to server. Error code: 17995 Internet Explorer 8 or later required Is necessary Internet Explorer to run the game? I tried to install it on Wine, but I have the same problem. Is possible to make Raceroom not dependant of Internet Explorer in the next RaceRoom updates? Perhaps in this way the game will come to run with this wrapper In this Proton's Github issue you can found more information about the problem: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1321
Hi. This game would be a nice addition to our racing sim libraries. Are there any plans for a Linux port? At least, if any future development would make it more Wine/Proton friendly it could become playable at some point. Thanks.
Hi all! Another linux user here! Would be awesome to have this game working on our system, if it's not possible to get a native version, maybe just made it compatible with Steam's Play (Proton) would be enough until/if the devs start to think on a future upgrade for the game to get it to work with a more recent API like Vulkan that would make a possible native version easier. Recent improvements have been made in graphic drivers and support for devices like Logitech Wheels with the new community developed driver new-lg4ff to get fully FFB effects working (thanks Bernat), the option of playing simracing games like this is more real than ever today. Think about it! Thanks!
Just install windows for gaming. I can't see it being a good use of resources to support these hobby OS's.
... Hobby OS's... Linux???? Speaking of which... This is a copy/paste of this issue in Proton Github: """I was trying to do a lot of tests with Wine and Lutris, and I found that installing the game in a 32bit prefix (with Lutris), and then installing ie8 with winetricks, the game change the error popup (now shows error 0): It takes a lot of time to show this error, and after talk with Raceroom devs, they said me that error 0 means that it can't connect to the server. Could be an anticheat system? Then I see the log and there is something strange: Running /home/leo/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/ge-protonified-nofshack-4.9-x86_64/bin/wine /home/leo/.local/share/lutris/runners/winesteam/prefix64/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/Steam.exe -no-cef-sandbox -console steam://open/games/details ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "public/steambootstrapper_english.txt". Funny, I think Windows is a joke of an OS. I use Linux at work and at home for everything. Can we have differing oppinions?
Of course. But at the same time to expect software developers to cater for what is a tiny minority in relation to windows and even macOS isn't realistic either.
Well, I just expect software developers to do what's in their hands to improve the experience for their users, minority or not. Building multi-platform software is possible and has many advantages.
So for those like myself getting to there via trial and error, I did try proton 5.0 and GE proton 5.0.6 and same issue this game is using a silly way to access their servers with a internet explorer service. I have no idea why, specially considering Steam uses chromium. Someone knows a way around this let me know, I think this is the last racing game left not working on Linux as asseta corsica and Iracing are both working with slight tweaks.
