@Blue Angel - yeah mate, just go into Nvidia control panel and create a custom res and save it then you can select it in game. You can create 21:9 ratio ultrawide res to test if you have a 4k monitor.

@Blanes - it's a good idea to try nonstandard res. Many thanks!

I've got all the parts for roof and general enclosure around cockpit. 40ft of 3/4 inch PVC (excuse non metric lengths) and a crap ton of joints. Plus black paint, glue, and pvc cutter tool, and black foam board (plastic was harder to find or pricey) Can't wait to get the time to build this.

Then comes the dashboard from junk yard.

Then comes actually learning to race well.

Me too on "the rest". I did a lot of Amazon and hardware store searching. As far as lightweigh black paneling it's all come from large craft stores as black foam or black cardboard display sheets. Hardware stores here did not have the corrugated plastic (corflute ), and it was expensive to ship. I think the black foam will work well since I got a couple thinner pieces for flexibility.

All in all, spent about $100 on hardware for the triple monitor mount/table and the enclosure/roof parts. Plus things like screws, glue, paint, heavy duty tape, etc.

Will definitely post back once "done". By the way...pvc is basically adult tinker toys!

Here it is fellas - thanks for taking interest. There is much cleaning up to do before the rig is video worthy - there is alot of raggedy looking tape (black Gorilla tape, highly recommended for this sort of thing) and such, but at the end of the day when racing she's sturdy and nothing feels loose. I'll will spend some time with beautification later on now that the central structure is in place.

You wouldn't want to try to have a picnic on the roof, but if my kid grabs the supports and pulls hard she'll hold together (real racers have accident damage and g forces, sim racers have rowdy kids)

My next item of business i believe is a cup holder for my ETS2 coffee. I'm not sure about the dash, may unnecessarily complicate matters. I'm sure more ideas will come up thanks to all the great rigs posted here and elsewhere.

Oh yeah, i feel like I made the roof about 2 inches too tall, but i've already hit my head getting out once, so i may keep it that way. All that's need to lower it is 4 pvc couplings for about 1$ total and cutting 2 inches off 4 bars.

    Happy racing.

    @ElNino :
    I like it.
Come to think of it that I have a piece of that double walled black plastic lying around on the attick somewhere...
One thought though: I don't know about your monitors, but mine have cooling openings where you attached the black plates.
So I will be forced to start on top of the bezels.
Since my rig is partly located under a 45° ceiling, I'm planning to attach the whole thing to that, in stead of resting it on the floor...
    Hmm...still some brainstorming to do...

@Fanapryde thanks man. Yes you are right about the cooling vents in the monitor. I did partially cover a couple of the many vents, and was thinking "How much cooling does a monitor need really?" (Famous last words before 911 housefire call). A lot of that tape is unnecessary anyway, will get back there and clean it up one of these days.

I tend to get things setup kinda half arsed first, then refine from there....totally what you'd teach someone NOT to do. It's the same at work...get the code working first, then add comments, clean up etc. Bad aspect of my personality....I can hear my 4th grade teacher now "Haste makes waste!!"

I like your idea of using the ceiling and working from that. That could make for a really clean look. Find a couple studs, attach some fasteners and mount the whole thing from that....definitely light enough!

I don't really think there would be a fire hazard, but if the monitors don't get enough cooling, it may shorten their lifespan (that is what it says in my BenQ's manual.
And they do produce a lot of warmth, as I can feel in the room when racing for a few hours...

    Hi All,

New to R3E and S3 forums.

This is my el-cheapo rig, was over my computer chair pushing away from the desk while braking!

Made from scrap wood from work
    - 2400*420*27mm concrete forming plywood
    - The bottom of a wooden shipping container with a 26mm ply base

All assembled with furniture screws/threaded inserts so can be easily dismantled/reassembled.
Seat is from my project Mini, which wont be completed in the foreseeable future.

It started off as this on sketchup
    [IMG]

    then became this

There is a 50"lcd on an articulating arm which swings out from the wall infront of the sim rig, as it's the spare/rumpus room which the kids play in also.

Is fully adjustable - reach/rake of pedals, reach, height, rake of wheel, and reach, height, rake of seat. Keyboard draw tucks away under the wheel.

Has a very GT car type seating position.

yeh it is extremely solid, and extremely heavy. would easily take an OSW Mige without flexing!

Before motion comes triple screens, which means new graphics card, and new pedals, and ssh shifter, and my dream 8020 build
So yeah I already have a huge shopping list!

This is what I want to build, when funds allow. It has custom cnc aluminium pedal and wheel mounts, which push the cost up towards $1600 AUD :(

@minidriver that's fantastic. I would not want to get into a crash with you rig vs rig lol.

    Spoiler: You'd win.

As nice as these 8020 rigs are (I considered building one myself), you might want to take a look at this Simetik K2:

    http://simetik-cockpits.myshopify.com/products/cockpit-k2

It is A LOT cheaper, and as sturdy and heavy as they come. Don't know about shipping costs to Australia (they are based in Portugal) but it is the most impressively build rig I owned (after a flimsy Playseat, and a pretty good RaceRoom. This one is adjustable in all directions, geometry like a GT3 car. The price is without seat, but since you have one...
I would strongly recommend it. The only change I made are bigger and longer rubber feet under the rig (mainly because the seat of the RaceRoom was 6 cm (about 2") higher above the floor than this one, which made it easier to get in and out for this old man) ... :D

Fyi: the carbon edition has some carbon parts which are more for the looks (as the manufacturer told me), but is a lot more expensive.

    Hi everyone,
Wow! So many amazing rigs here :D

    Here is my setup..
I am using Juan Zapata's quick release system to switch from the original wheel to this one.
