I want to promote a game I won't tell you much about.
It's called "The Beginners Guide", made by Davey Wreden, the guy who also made "The Stanley Parable" (if you don't know that, go check it as well, it's great, game of some year I think).

But The Beginners Guide really is something else. It's an amazing piece of videogame storytelling and manages to touch fundamental emotions and raise philosophical questions about life, relationships and oneself.

If you're even slightly intrigued, don't spoil it by looking at reviews or videos of it. Just get and play it (takes about 2 hours), it's really worth the experience.

Last year at around this time, maybe one month later, I discovered The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

What an experience. A piece of true poetry. Quite tragic, and adult.

The beauty, but also the unique perspective of the player, that in all its deeper consequences was revealed not before the very end, and the narrated story, stayed on my mind for several weeks after I was finished. I play games since almost 30 years, that much impressed and emotionally touched I was only - I cannot remember if it ever was like that due to a game. Films and books maybe, but never a PC game.

The game plays for 4-5 hours if you are very fast, but I recommend: take your time. Don't be in a haste. Don't breath fast, but inhale deep. That way it took around 7 hours for me. And it was worth every penny.

And don't expect to be taken by your hand and being led around. It does not work that way. Don't rush. Take your time. If Tarkowski's Stalker, Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock, the fantastic stories of Ray Bradbury, Lovecraft mean something to you, this is for you. It shares the same vibes and mood and atmosphere. Do not expect bright lights and loud sounds from explosions. The horror of this one unfolds silent, and slowly, in your imagination only - and then turns into something so totally different that it will blow your mind and soul away.

Play this alone, in a room you have for your own, when the world is silent and it is dark around an d nobody disturbs. Enjoy this. This is not something for running during a party. Its a poetic, aesthetic, fragile experience with an ending you will remember for long time to come.

Outstanding! Best game/book/film experience I had since years.

Don't spoil this for you by watching too many videos about it. This one - and then no more. ;)

I have recently played some Mad Max at my friend place and was very surprised. Its on my buy list now.
I love the fact that you can drive in First person view. Driving these machine in the desert/badland is amazing.
The game plays like Batman Arkham , Shadow of Mordor and dare i say Driver San francisco ( driving part )
The combat was fun. I could see some part being repetitive but the immersion level is top notch so i don't mind getting lost in there for a long time :)

@MeMotS , I bought it as well. Some site had a sale on it on Saturday for $12.99 so it was hard to turn down that price. It's pretty good

Uh, too many titles to list and my preferences vary a lot! With few hundred titles on Steam, a couple of hundred on GOG and so on, there are defintely some games to play :p

If not counting R3E, I spent most of my gaming time on Prepar3d, a sort of Lockheed Martin derivative of Flight Simulator X. I have HOTAS, Yoke, Pedals, TrackIR and few other controllers to support my flight simming habits. For racing titles, NR2003 is another of my favourites with few amazing mods. I have AC and pC, but I just don't like them. In fact, I have uninstalled AC a while ago. By the way, I love oval racing as much as road courses, although I'm european.

Third racing title after R3E and NR2003 I like is GSCE, but I mainly just race CART Extreme mod, which is just f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s and AI works beautifully, except on ovals  In general, I mostly prefer strategy and adventure titles, like Europa Universalis IV, recent Telltale stuff, point and clicks and wargames such as Graviteam Tactics. FPS and other action games (like Mad Max) are fun once in a while as small dosages at one time. Every few weeks I have a "play night" with my friend and we play pretty much everything that has a local co-op in it (both PC and PS4) or something on local LAN that his laptop can handle, although during the last year or so we have pretty much dropped video games and transferred to board games such as Arkham Horror or X-Wing Miniatures Game. Both, video and "real" games are a blast with a friend, especially if you grab few (at least a dozen or so) beers while playing :D

My most recent sim racing purchase is rFactor 2, which I grabbed the other night and I have been fiddling with it this weekend. I must say that it is also one nice racing simulator. Yes, there are bugs and things that don't work properly but it is still one heck of a simulator with all its flaws. For example, Dallara DW12 is just a blast to drive and AI does decent job even on ovals. I should say that rF2 has the best oval AI after NR2003, which is also a bit sad at the same time. And it isn't nearly as good ATM. Recent stock car addon shows some promise, but I still think that the cars have way too much grip, no matter what fanboys say. The main problem I see with rF2 is that it has too little quality (and well optimized) mod tracks compared to rF1 or GSCE. On the other hand, the best feature is by far realroad, where track surface is dynamically changing by temperature and rubber left from tires. And you have rain and day/night cycles also.

With all its faults at the moment, I still think that every sim racer should get rF2, especially now, when you can get 40% off the normal price till the 18th of october. If I have understood correctly, you also get Steam key for free when it is released there, if you have purchased the title from ISI. I won't post the link to discounts, because I don't know if it is allowed to post such things for "competing" titles, but you should find it quite easily by googling. Is rF2 better than R3E then? I would say that no, at least at the moment, but answer also depends on what you are looking in a racing sim. One thing I'm certain that you can't have too many racing sims on your hard drive :p

Dabbling in a little Project Cars and Assetto Corsa to try their renditions of various cars and tracks versus what we have in R3E.

Aside from that, WiiU and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze or a little Mario Kart action on my Panny plasma TV helps me relax..when the AI in MK8 isn't wiping me out ;)

R3E, Dirt Rally. If I have a wole weekend to spend, I might start a game of Civilization V.
Other than that, some pinball and arcade classics. Easy fun that doesn't need more than 10 minutes of your time. Every home needs a pinball machine and an arcade machine. :)

Assetto Corsa has become my main racing sim, mostly because it has the most players online. I also spend more time than I want to admit trying to play Project CARS for similar reasons, but that game is so buggy that it's infuriatingly rare I'm even able to play it.

When I'm not playing racing sims, I'm usually playing DCS. I was on a DCS hiatus for awhile after getting so fed up with 1.2's spotting issues, and now that 1.5 is finally out after years of delays, it has a decent (if very flawed) way to see aircraft more than 500 meters in front of you.

I'm also a huge space sim fan but there's not much to play yet. Just waiting for things to come out. Although, I hear Rebel Galaxy is good so I think I'll be checking that out soon. I play Elite sometimes, I try Star Citizen every major patch, and am eagerly awaiting Enemy Starfighter and the recently announced Everspace. I'm always keeping my eye on the genre.

I picked up Armored Warfare, mostly because it's the World of Tanks idea but done by a western developer. So far I'm pretty happy with it. It's an unashamed clone of World of Tanks, but improved in a lot of little ways that make a big difference. The developers are also very communicative and responsive to the community, something which is unheard of from Wargaming and Gaijin.

I bet my balls that it must be pure awesomeness with the VR. I'll try again to play it once I'm in a period of quiet and over bored with other games. It's a badass Sim but unfortunately/fortunately it has an immense learning slope... that could even make Tony Hawk go pale.

Eh, it's certainly an incredible experience, but not something I would actually play DCS for real with. It's a very ineffective way to fly. It's also extremely buggy and crash prone at the moment.

What kills it is the resolution. The resolution of the DK2 just isn't good enough to play use it for DCS other than doing a quick fly around to see how neat the idea is. You can't read your instruments, and you can barely read your HUD. Until 1.5, it was literally impossible to see other planes out the window, but now with the spotting that's not quite as bad.

The CV1 will certainly help on the resolution front, but I'm not convinced it'll be enough to make flight sims playable. Not to my standards anyway. I think CV1 might be good enough for racing sims though, so I am still very much keeping an eye on it. Racing sims also benefit from VR much more than a flight sim would, and in simracing's case, it could be a significantly cheaper replacement to the ludicrously expensive cockpit triple monitor setups people build.

As for the learning curve. It depends what you're flying. So many people say to start with the A-10C but I've always found that misguided advice. It's like throwing somebody into the ocean before as their first exposure to water. It doesn't help that if you don't like flying ground attack missions, and flying them slowly, you probably won't like the A-10C either way. That's the case for me, and I am admittedly in the minority. Trying to learn A-10C almost threw me off DCS altogether because I just have no interest in the plane and its mission, so I didn't find any joy in trying to learning what also happened to be the most complex plane in DCS.

I didn't really get back into DCS until I started flying the Flamings Cliffs jets because I much prefer air to air combat and flying fast. Once MiG-21 came out, it quickly became and still is my favorite module in DCS by far. It's also the only fully systems level modeled fighter in the game. MiG-21 is excellent, and on par with Eagle Dynamics own modules. It's very easy to learn, but difficult to master due to its analog nature and switchology. I love the plane to bits.

Check out their other videos and podcasts. The Giantbomb guys always make me laugh.

They did a quick look video on the DCS UH-1H Huey simulator which is equally hilarious...
