    Hi,

I recently bought a DK2 to try out VR. It's working nicely in project Cars, AC and RF2 but I can't get Raceroom to launch with the -vr command.

The game hangs on loading and just freezes with a black screen. I can't alt tab or start task manager. The only way to get out I'd to reset the PC!

My PC is an FX6300 with an RX480 8 GB and 16 GB ram.

    Any ideas?

On top of the VR command, try adding
    -cefNoGPU -cefNoBlacklist

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

No difference I'm afraid. The game starts to load and I see the small Raceroom logo appear saying it's loading.
It then freezes with nothing in the Rift screen or on the desktop.
I've had the message come up saying fatal error Steam must be running to play this game (steamAPI_Init ()failed).
    Or just a black screen.
I have to hard reset the PC at this point as it's unresponsive and ctrl/alt/del will not bring up task manager.
If I remove the -vr in launch options it loads in desktop mode perfectly.
If run a file check which comes back okay.

is it a fresh install or did you play Raceroom without VR before?

If you played it before, try deleting the graphics_options.xml that is located in the following folder:
    [....]Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData

In addition you can try to verify steam cache for Raceroom in Steam...

    Tried the above.

It's crashing steam / my PC so badly that it's wiping downloads of not just Raceroom, but also other games and logging me out of steam.

Do really want to try again!

uh - that sounds strange and might be a reason for your trouble. Normally Steam just checks the files of Raceroom during that process.

Here a link to a little how-to from Steam. Just adapt that for Raceroom.

When did you get that bluescreen exactly?

I'd try a complete new install, but the file cache checks out ok.
Not sure if that would help.
So frustrating, it works for every other sim perfectly!

I launched Raceroom, it comes up with the small loading banner and just freezes there and crashes shortly after.
Loads perfectly without the -vr launch option

ok, than remove all Launch Options for Raceroom and try to start and see if it lauchen... It would be without VR but, then we would know if it depends on VR or on the Install...

I've uninstalled Raceroom. I'll reinstall it and try again.

Just for clarity, once it's back on my PC, I just add the -vr launch option and run straight from the desktop?
Do I need to load steamVR first or just launch Raceroom?

    Given up!

After complete reinstall, still blue screen of death or unrecoverable crash with -vr command enabled.

I'll wait and see if it ever gets updated for Raceroom.

    Back to RF2 then.

    Have a little more info.
So, still launching ok without the -vr launch option.

with -vr i get the small starting logo appear.
the following error is displayed - Failed to load effect 'animatedaudience.fx' reason:
    ID3DXEffectCompiler: There were no techniques
    ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation failed

I also get a crash DMP file witch i have attached.

Also, a blue screen often follows that has a stop code: VIDEO SCHEDULER INTERNAL_ERROR

would appreciate anyone shedding light on any of this! Very frustrating.

watchdog.sys is a Windows process that monitors the gpu driver and if that doesn't respond in time it can cause issues and bsods. Make sure you're using a stable driver version and also make sure the flash plugin used by RR is installed correctly.
In addition you should disable the UI hardware acceleration like Kitsune suggested, make sure those params are set correctly, with the necessary spaces and hyphens.

Could you provide the full specs of your PC, including disk size, installation directory etc?
Is the disk steam/RR is on rather full?
Are you using any dubious software like afterburner or rivatuner?
Please c&p any launch param(s) you entered in steam here.

Regarding those directx errors I'll forward your report to a programmer and let you know if he needs any more info or has other suggestions.

    My PC specs are:

    FX6300
    RX480 8GB
    16 GB DDR 3 RAM
500 GB HDD (approx half full)
Oculus Rift DK2 using SteamVR (stable release)
    Latest Oculus software. (Stable)

Raceroom is installed through Steam on my C: drive in the default location.

I have Afterburner installed but it is not set to run wirth windows and is not running at the time of the crash.

I currently just have the -vr launch parameter.
I've tried adding the other parameters that Kitsune suggested after the vr command separated with a space between each one but they made no difference.
