But there is some new free S397 content ^^ rFactor 2 | Free Content | BMW M4 Class 1 2021 @ Zandvoort 2021 Car: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2525930688 Track: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1107038453
My first race with the new WTCR 2019 mod by Tommy78. What can I say? I am very impressed! Why? Take a look!

Surfers paradise! Once again we are treated to a quality track by Andrea. Those who know him and his work know that you are always on the safe side with him. But enough of words, enjoy the video! Edit: However, the track is not available until 2021/10/08. This is a mistake on my part and I apologise to all involved.
Not too surprising to be honest, I also abandoned it at the beginning of the year. It has the laziest VR implementation by far, I don't even think the new UI is an improvement over the old one (after taking them ages to introduce it) and too many of those annoying little things that never get fixed. And judging by how "great" the new NASCAR game's release went, I'm not sure about the involvement with Motorsport Games either.
People are upgrading to DD wheels, and Rfactor 2 is Unpredictably Dangerous & Potentially Damaging to the DD Hardware. I can't remember the last time I fired up Rfactor 2, it's just not worth the risk. They Have been Aware of this Problem for a long time, and Have not done anything to resolve the issue.
I’m not surprised in the slightest. rF2 has the most protracted development I’ve ever witnessed. The DX11 rewrite was an amazing piece of work but it’s been undone with a horrid UI upgrade, long-standing issues that remain unfixed, paid content that’s released with issues, dud AI - the list of issues is endless. The monthly blogs are largely worthless, dev blogs and videos are released and then forgotten and the QA blogs are mostly filled with non answers. I enjoy rF2 but it’s a total mess and people are sick of waiting for a complete sim. S397 have promised a major release later this month (not the current build). Let’s see if it’s of substance or more false promises.
S397 have announced an update to their upgraded UI: This is how the UI should have been on release. Let's hope this is the start of mnay improvements to rF2. With Motorsport Games haemorrhaging money, NASCAR Ignition being one of the worst releases in years I don't hold much hope for rF2.
Let’s see I have concerns with ONLINE and inconsistent physics across the board of cars but UI was on my list too
Indeed I am wondering when if EA or another company buys out MM or waits till they go bust. Rfactor2 has a problem in that most people would have bought it buy now and the DLC makes no sense when there are better free or paid mods around plus the online aspect is neglected. As with RRE, the development cycle is closer to the end than the beginning and AC2 will probably be the final nail in the Rfactor coffin if it lasts that long.
There is no end to RF2. It will exist for just as long. If only because there is no point in making RF3. Great news - the UI was complete garbage. The HUD repair remains to be taken care of.
I hope it doesn't come to that. Rally Factor already exists - WRC 2023. I am horrified to imagine what will happen to the WRC series and don't wish for such an RF2.
I think that is a bit unjustified at the moment, the two Dirt Rally installments have been quite decent in my opinion and EA already stated that they don't wish to steer Codemasters into a completely different direction. On the other hand, the previous WRC games haven't been that excellent either, so I think at this point, there is nothing to worry about regarding the 2023 game.
I think that much like RRE, it´s an old game running on an old physics engine but ported to a newer version of DX. What they are doing with the UI is like painting a go faster stripe on a MK3 Ford Escort. I understand that games like Minecraft can go on for years but motorsport simulation is supposed to reflect technology and we can see that these games struggle to adopt hybrid or electric power or weather emulation to name just two aspects - aside from how optimised they are for newer pcs and RTX. Whilst I am against the EA yearly churn or the editions of PC that seem to get worse not better, there are a couple of games on the horizon that are probably going to take racing sims to the next level and make RF2 seem as dated as Geoff Crammond´s titles - not slating those at all but things have moved on.
The basic technology (tyre model + FFB) of rF2 is quite good, but the people who developed it have long since left and the remaining S397/MSG devs don't seem to know how to take it forward beyond tinkering around the edges and adding layers on top (UI + competitive multiplayer). It also doesn't seem like the physics models translate that easily to other engines, given the disastrous example of NASCAR 21: Ignition. Reiza tried working with rF2 but eventually went the other way. Until MSG release one reasonable title based on the rF2 engine, it all remains up in the air.
